The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns to Pocono Raceway this afternoon for the GoBowling.com 400. Today's race is scheduled to get underway at 1:19pm ET; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. Johnson, who is seeking his fifth win of the season, will start from the pole today. When the Sprint Cup Series first tackled the Pocono Raceway in early June for the Party In The Poconos 400, Jimmie Johnson won the pole and eventually the race after leading 128 of the 160 laps ran. Johnson's performance was hardly unusual as he had registered two wins and nine top 10 finishes at Pocono (22 track appearances) heading into the race.
Given his track history, as well as his strong showing at Pocono last month, Johnson is clearly the top betting choice this afternoon. The California native is also on a major tear right now, having won two of the last seven Sprint Cup races while placing ninth or better in five consecutive races.
Johnson's teammate, four time Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon, is worth a strong look as well. Gordon represents tremendous value at +1500 odds to win and +450 odds to finish in the top three. Gordon won the Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono last year and he has six wins and 18 top five finishes in 41 career appearances at the Long Pond, Pennsylvania track.
