The 2012 MAACO Las Vegas Bowl will pit the PAC-12’s Washington Huskies against the Mountain West’s Boise State Broncos. The postseason contest is scheduled to get underway at 3:30pm ET on Saturday, December 22nd at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada (ESPN). Las Vegas Bowl: Washington Huskies vs. Boise State Broncos odds have Chris Petersen’s squad listed as a -5.5 against the spread favorite; the Over/Under is set at 46 points.
Most pundits felt Boise State will have trouble maintaining the near unparalleled level of success it enjoyed with Kellen Moore under center, and they were correct. The Broncos hardly fell off a cliff, though, finishing with a 10-2 record and tied atop the Mountain West standings with a 7-1 conference mark.
However, Boise State’s offense, which lost seven starters from last year’s 44.2 point per game unit, did fall off as it currently ranks 54th in the FBS with a 30.4 point per game average. The Broncos made up for the slip in offensive production with one of the nation’s stingiest defenses. Boise State enters the Las Vegas Bowl allowing just 304.7 yards and 14.9 points per game.
Washington, which placed fourth in the PAC-12 North with a 7-5 overall record and 5-4 tally against conference foes, won in a much the same manner as its Las Vegas Bowl counterpart.
The Huskies did produce a few nice offensive efforts (a 34-15 win over Utah comes to mind), but, for the most part, they overcame their opposition with a defense that allowed just under 24 points and 354 yards per game.
