The 2012-2013 college football bowl season will get underway on Saturday, December 15th with the Gildan New Mexico Bowl (1:00pm ET, ESPN). The postseason clash, which will take place at University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, will pit the Mountain West’s Nevada Wolf Pack against the PAC-12’s Arizona Wildcats. Early Gildan New Mexico Bowl Odds have the Wildcats listed as a -10 against the spread favorite; the Over/Under is set at 75 points.
Neither the Nevada Wolf Pack nor the Arizona Wildcats had a banner season, but they did qualify for postseason by earning 7-5 records. There were several high moments for each squad during the regular season as Arizona opened the year with three straight wins under new coach Rich Rodriguez and Nevada jumped out to a 6-1 record in its quest for a Mountain West title.
There were also some low moments for the two schools. The Wildcats opened conference play with three consecutive losses and it got hammered 66-10 at UCLA late in the season. The Wolf Pack was unable to sustain their early momentum, finishing the year on an ugly 1-4 run.
Arizona, which ranked 17th in the nation in scoring offense, finished fourth in the PAC-12 South thanks to a 41-34 home loss to in-state rival Arizona State in its regular season finale. Nevada placed fifth in the Mountain West standings behind Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State, and Air Force with a 4-4 conference record.
