College Football Picks Navy Midshippmen vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish

College football on Saturday afternoon and we will see the Navy Midshippmen travel to South Bend, Indiana to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The game will televised on NBC and has a start time of 3:30 pm (Eastern). Vegas odds have Notre Dame listed as 14.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 49.

Analysis: The Midshipmen are coming off a 24-21 win over Pittsburgh last Saturday. A 30-yard field goal as time expired was the difference as Navy scored 10 points in the final three-plus minutes to improve to 3-0 at home and 4-3 overall, but the Midshipmen have dropped three straight on the road, including two to non-BCS conference schools. The Navy offensive attack has been up-and-down thus far, with most of the damage coming on the ground, as they rank 10th in the nation with 292.1 rushing ypg. Over the last 12 years, Navy has consistently had one of the highest producing ground attacks in the country, never finishing lower than sixth in rushing. Reynolds is the team's leading rusher with 546 yards and 11 TDs on 147 carries. Navy's defense held three of its first four opponents under 20 points, but has surrendered an average of 33.7 ppg over its last three outings. On the season, Navy is allowing exactly 396 yards per contest and ranks 54th in the nation yielding in points allowed per game (24.6).

Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish notched their third straight win last week with a 45-19 rout of Air Force. Notre Dame has won five of its last six games to arrive at a 6-2 overall record. Tommy Rees has assumed the leadership role on the field for Notre Dame, but has guided the group to just 389.3 ypg in total offense (81st nationally). The quarterback has completed 55.1% of his throws for an average of 243 ypg with 20 TDs against 6 INTs on the season. Cam McDaniel leads the ground game with 417 yards and two touchdowns, while George Atkinson III has also been useful in the rushing attack with 381 yards and 2 TDs. Wideouts TJ Jones (44 catches, 631 yards, six TDs) and DaVaris Daniels (30 catches, 463 yards, four TDs) are a dangerous tandem downfield. Notre Dame's defense was the key to its undefeated run through the regular season and into the BCS Championship Game last season. This year the Fighting Irish are ranked just 32nd nationally in total defense (364.5 ypg) and 28th in scoring defense (21.6 ppg).

Pick: Gonna go with the Irish to get the blowout win here. ND is back to pounding on Navy, beating them by a 106-24 count over the last 2 meetings and they should have an easy one here as well. The Irish are fighting for a shot at getting into a BCS bowl once again and they will take another step with a solid 21+ point win in this one.
