Saturday College football and we will see the UAB Blazers take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starksville, Mississippi. The game has a start time of 2:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN. Current Vegas odds have the Bulldogs listed as 28.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 57.  

Analysis: The UAB Blazers last had a winning season back in 2014, when they went 7-5 and faced Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl. Since then they have gone 31-76 and from 2009 thru 2013, they won 5, 4, 3, 3, and 2 games. With that pattern they will win either 2 or 1 game this year. This year they have a new energy with 15 starters back and a new HC (Bill Clark), which does give them a shot at 3 or more wins this year. The Bill Clark era did start of on a solid foot as they Blazers dismantled the Troy Tojans by a 48-10 score. In the game Blazers outgained the Trojans by a 490-237 count, while they piled up 338 yards on the ground led by Jordan Howard, who had 179 yards rushing and 2 TDs on the day. The defense was very solid against Troy, especially vs the run as they allowed just 71 yards rushing on 1.9 ypc.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs went 7-6 last year and ended the season in a high note with a 44-7 trouncing of the Rice Owls in the Liberty Bowl. It was the 4th bowl game in a row for the Bulldogs. This year they have 57 lettermen, including 16 starters and should be primed for another run at a bowl game. Their attempt at a 5th straight bowl appearance got off to a roaring start with their 49-0 destruction of Southern Miss in their opener. In that game the bulldogs racked up 556 yards, while allowing just 283 yards. Dak Prescott had a very nice game for the Bulldogs, hitting 18 of 26 passes for 284 yards, with 4 TDs and just 1 INT, while Josh Johnson led the ground attack with 87 yards on 14 carries.

Pick:  I will look at the Bulldogs in this one. UAB had a big opening win, but really played over their heads. They won’t be able to in this one. His Mississippi State teams is solid from top to bottom and they showed littler mercy in routing Southern Miss last week. I expect them to rout UAB here as well, as they build confidence for the SEC season. UAB is just 1-7 ATS on the road vs a .500+ team and I expect that trend to continue here.
