College Football Odds Navy Midshippmen vs San Jose State Spartans

College football on Friday night and we will see the Navy Midshippmen travel to San Jose, California to take on the San Jose State Spartans. The game has a start time of 9:30 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on ESPN 2. Vegas odds have San Jose State listed as 2 point favorites, while the total sits at 57.

Analysis: The Navy Midshippmen are bowl eligible as they come into to the game with a 6-4 record. Navy won their last 2 games to get to bowl eligible, but both of those games were at home and now they are on the road, where they have gone 0-4 on the year. Navy, as always, is one of the best running team is the nation as they rank 5th in the nation, averaging 311 ypg. QB Keenan Reynolds leads the team in rushing with 884 yards and 19 TD's, but he has also been effective as a passer throwing for 982 yards, with 7 Tds and just 2 INTs. Navy has plenty of talented runners as 8 players on the team have 226 yards or more rushing. On defense, Navy has been average at best, ranking 66th in total defense (401.6 ypg) and 52nd in points allowed, giving up 25.2 ppg.

The San Jose Spartans come in at 5-5 on the year and they need to win 1 of their last 2 games if the hope to get a bowl invite. The Spartans have been a streaky team this year as they had a 3 game losing streak earlier in the year, followed by a 4 game win streak and now they come in having lost 2 in a row. David Fales is one of the better QB's in the MWC and he leads an offense that ranks 11th in the nation in passing, putting up 325.4 ypg. Fales has completed 60.4% of his passes for 3202 yards, with 22 TD's and 14 INTs. Fales does have a favorite target and that is Chandler Jones, who has 64 receptions for 1109 yards and 11 Tds. All the yards that San Jose has put up hasn't meant a ton of points, as they are 75th in the nation in scoring, averaging just 27.5 ppg. On defense they have not been so good, ranking 98th overall and and 89th in points allowed, giving up 31.1 ppg. They also struggle vs the run, ranking 101st in that department, which is not good when about to face the Navy option.

Pick: Going to go with Spartans in this one. Yes they have a problem stopping the run, but they did so vs this team in a 12-0 win last year. Navy also became bowl eligible last week so they may have a bit of a letdown here, while the Spartans need this win to get to bowl eligibility. I look for the a good game by these teams, but David Fales and company will get the deciding score late in the game.
