Analysis: The Irish started off their ACC careers with an upset win over the Duke Blue Devils, last Saturday, but the excitement quickly faded when they went out and lost at home to NC State just 3 days later. Now the Irish are hoping to get back on track in their first ever ACC road game as a member of the conference. Losing Jerian Grant and his 19 ppg has not hurt the Irish all that much so far, as they are 3-1 without him. Garrick Sherman currently leads the Irish in scoring at 14.9 ppg, and he had 21 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in Tuesday's loss to NC State. Eric Atkins averages a conference-leading 36.9 minutes per contest and is really been playing well in the absence of Grant, averaging 18.3 ppg in his last 4 games. Notre Dame is 2nd in the ACC in scoring at 80 ppg, but they have struggled on defense at times, allowing 71.1 ppg and they are 304th in the nation in 3pt defense, allowing teams to connect on 37.7% of their long range shots.
The Yellow Jackets are off to a 9-6 start overall, but they are 0-2 in the ACC. The Jackets come in off a 4 game road trip, in which they went just 1-3, while scoring 59.8 ppg over that stretch after scoring 70 or more points seven times in its first 11 games. The Yellow Jackets have dropped both games since losing Robert Carter Jr., the ACC’s leading rebounder, to a season-ending knee injury and that will put more pressure on Marcus Georges-Hunt, who scored 18 points in the Duke loss and is 12-for-23 from the field in the past two games. Trae Golden leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring at 12.6, but has scored 18 points total in two games since going for 24 points against Charlotte. The Yellow Jackets have won six of eight previous meetings against Notre Dame, including the past four matchups.
Pick: Going with the Irish in this one. Their offense is much better than that of the Yellow Jackets right now an that should be enough to propel them to a big road win here. Both teams are missing stars, but the Irish have adapted better. Notre Dame by at least 7 here.
