Bowling Green Falcons vs Mississippi State Bulldogs Start Time, Odds

Saturday night college football and we will see the Bowling Green Falcons take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starksville, Mississippi. The game will be televised on FSN and has a start time of 7:30 pm (Eastern). Current Odds have Mississippi State listed as 10.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 53.

Analysis: Bowling Green enters on a three-game win streak, but the Falcons got whipped 42-10 by Indiana in their only game against a BCS conference team. The Falcons are 5-1 on the year after last week's 28-7 lackluster win over Umass. Despite the crushing loss to the Hoosiers they have still had impressive wins over Tulsa (34-7) and Kent State (41-22). The Falcons have been very good on both sides of the ball this year, ranking 28th in total offense and 5oth in scoring (32 ppg), while on defense they are 29th overall and 15th in points allowed (16.5 ppg). This is clearly a team primed to make a run at the MAC title, but they haven't beaten an SEC team since beating Kentucky back in 1985.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs come in at a disappoint 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the SEC. Good news for them in this one is that HC Dan Mullen is 11-2 SU in non-conference home games. Still this is a struggling team and just not playing to the same standards that got them to bowl games 3 years in a row. The Stats for the Bulldogs look solid, as they are 35th in total offense, 47th in scoring offense (32.4 ppg), 37th in total defense and 44th in scoring defense (23.6 ppg), but how much stock can you take in that as their two wins (Troy and Alcorn State) came by a combined 118-14. Yes nice stats, but they did fatten up on those two weak opponents.

Pick: Not a good spot for the Falcons here. They come off playing an FCS foe and 2 of the worst teams in CFB  and now must travel to SEC land to take on a Bulldog teams that is off a 33 point loss to LSU and has a bye week on deck. Bowling Green has looked good inside the MAC in recent years, but in their last 4 road games vs BCS teams they have been outscored by 32, 13, 37, 45 & 44 points.  One of those losses was a 42-10 defeat at Indiana this year, which is their only loss of the season. Mississippi State is 2-3 on the year, and they really need wins like this if they hope to go bowling this year. Mullen is 12-4 ATS as a home favorite and the Bulldogs have outscored their two non-conference foes at home bay a 113-14 count this year. Look for the Bulldogs to win this one close to 3 TD's.
