The Nebraska Cornhuskers will play their first conference road game today as they meet a one win Purdue squad at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Huskers and Boilermakers are scheduled to take the field at 12:00pm ET; this afternoon's game will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network. The latest Big Ten College Football Picks are favoring Nebraska at -14 against the spread while the Over/Under is set at 57 points.
Nebraska is away from the comfy confines of Lincoln for the first time this season, but it left home on a winning note. Despite the absence of star quarterback Taylor Martinez, the Huskers improved to 4-1 with an easy 39-19 win over Illinois on Saturday.
Nebraska's offense churned out 24 first downs and 521 total yards with redshirt freshman Tommy Armstrong Jr. under center. Armstrong, who will start in place of Martinez (turf toe) again this afternoon, completed 8-of-13 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns in his second career start.
While Armstrong played well, it was Ameer Abdullah that powered the Huskers to victory. The junior running back posted an astounding 225 yards on 20 carries and he also scored two of Nebraska's four touchdowns.
Abdullah and company should experience similar success today against the Boilermakers leaky defense.
Purdue has yielded an average of 42.3 points per game against school's not named Indiana State and its mistake prone offense (eight interceptions, three fumbles) has only exacerbated the team's defensive issues.
The Boilermakers may put a few points on the board against the Huskers less than stellar defense, but its not likely to be enough to get either a win or cover.
Notable Trends: Purdue is 2-8 straight up and 2-7-1 against the spread in its last 10 games as a home underdog in the month of October.
