Maria Sharapova is making her third straight appearance in the French Open finals at Roland Garros. She won the championship back in 2012 over Sara Errani in straight sets but lost last season to Serena Williams, 6-4 and 6-4. This tournament has been the coming out party for Simona Halep, who has quickly risen up the ranks and progressed her career in women's tennis.

Sharapova is the seventh seed in this tournament while Halep comes in seeded fourth. This tournament was an odd one this season as each of the top three seeds were knocked out early, Williams in the opening round. So here we have a couple of solid clay court players taking on each other in the finals.

Halep is making her first career Grand Slam final, so there probably will be some butterflies early on in the match. But she has proven she can play very well on the red clay and she's got an excellent shot against Sharapova, who has four Grand Slam titles to her name. The blonde bombshell is third among active women in Grand Slam titles, trailing Serena Williams with 17 and Venus Williams with seven. This will be the ninth major final for Sharapova in her career. She hasn't won a major since the 2012 French Open, but does have the career slam to her name.

Halep will want to move Sharapova on the baseline and get her out of her comfort zone. If this match turns into a slugfest, Halep is going to be in trouble. Sharapova is 3-0 all-time against Halep in her career, taking the Madrid title against the Romanian last month.

In this match we like Sharapova to get the job done. She has played very well this tournament, as has Halep, but Sharapova has been in this situation before. Sharapova is a slight favorite in this contest, but with the experience we like her to pick up her second Roland Garros title and fifth overall Grand Slam.
