Sunday college basketball and we will see the Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to PNC Arena to take on the NC State Wolfpack. The game has a start time of 6:30 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Current Vegas betting odds have Notre Dame listed as 1.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 143.
Analysis: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have gotten off to a very nice start this year as they currently have an 18-2 record, that includes a 6-1 mark in the ACC. The Irish have won all 3 ACC road games so far, which just happen to be their only true road games on the year. The Irish have gone 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a SU win of more than 20 points, but 8-21-1 ATS in their last 30 vs. the ACC and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS win. The Irish have been a very good offensive squad this year, ranking 11th in scoring (82.1 ppg), 2nd in shooting (53.0%), 11th in 3 point shooting (40.7%) and 66th in FT shooting (72.2%). The defense for this team has been solid, ranking 79th in points allowed (62.2 ppg), 78th in defensive FG% (39.9%) and 168th in 3 point defense (33.3%).
The NC State Wolfpack come in off a hard fought 65-60 loss at Miami on Thursday night. The loss was their 5th in their last 9 games and dropped them to 13-7 overall, but still they are at 4-3 in the ACC. NC State has gone 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games following a S.U. loss and 36-17-2 ATS in their last 55 vs. the ACC, but just 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of greater than .600. The Wolfpack have been a solid offensive team this year, ranking 84th in scoring (72.0 ppg), 66th in shooting (45.9%), 65th in 3 point shooting (37.2%) and 217th in FT shooting (67.6%). Defensively the Wolfpack has been decent, as they come in ranked 134th in points allowed (64.2 ppg), 48th in defensive FG% (39.3%) and 109th in 3 point defense (32.1%).
Pick: I like the Irish to take this one. Notre Dame has surprised many this year and should already be a lock for the ACC Tournament. Their two looses this year were by 1 point at Providence and by 6 points at home to Virginia, in a game that they led for much of. The Irish have 3 ACC road wins this year, including 1 at North Carolina and they should be able to win this one on the road as well vs a NC State team that is struggling right now. Should be another hard fought battle with Notre dame coming out on top by at least 5 points.
