Jacksonville Jaguars vs Philadelphia Eagles Free Pick, Odds

NFL Week 1 and we will see the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The game has a start time of 1:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBS. Current Vegas odds have the Eagles listed as 10.5 point favorites, while the total is set at 51.5.

Analysis: The Jacksonville Jaguars come in off another poor year, in which they went just 4-12 and the prospects of turning things around this year don’t look all that good. Last year the Jags were last in the league in scoring, at 15.4 ppg, while also ranking 31st in total yards (293.8 ypg), 22nd in passing (215.1 ypg) and 31st in rushing (78.8 ypg). Blake Bortles was taken with the third overall pick in the draft, but he will start the season on the sideline as Chad Henne will be the starter this year, after playing in 15 games for the Jags last year. Toby Gerhart was brought in to be the feature back, but he only has had 86 carries the last 2 years behind Adrian Petersen in Minnesota. Defensively, the Jags ranked 28th in points allowed (28.1 ppg), 27th in yards allowed (379.4 ypg), 25th vs the pass (247.6 ypg) and 29th vs the run (131.8 ypg). The defense looks improved this year and should b the strength of the team.

The Philadelphia Eagles had a very nice year under first year head coach Chip Kelly, who brought enthusiasm and excitement back to Philly. Now in the second year of his system, the Eagles look to take another positive step towards winning the Super Bowl. Last year the Eagle offense was ranked 4th in scoring, at 27.6 ppg, while also ranking 2nd in total yards (417.3 ypg), 9th in passing (256.9 ypg) and 1st in rushing (160.4 ypg). Nick Foles had an incredible year, finishing the year with 27 TDs and just 2 INTs, while completing 64% of his passes. Foles will lose WR DeSean Jackson, but Jeremy Maclin is back and Riley cooper showed that he is ready for the big stage. Foles will lose WR DeSean Jackson, but Jeremy Maclin is back and Riley cooper showed that he is ready for the big stage. The Eagles were solid on defense late in the year and should be an average group this year, but once again could struggle vs the pass.

Pick:  Going to look over here. The Jags stat that they will look to run the ball more this year, but they will have to throw allot in this game in order to keep up with the high powered Eagle offense that was very good last year and did not look like they missed a beat in the preseason. The Jags defense is improved, but it is just hard for teams to stop the Eagles. The Eagles defense was solid down the stretch last year, but I do expect the Jags to get enough big plays to help this game go Over the total.
