College Football Odds San Diego State Aztecs vs North Carolina Tar Heels

Saturday night College Football and we will see the San Diego State Aztecs take on the North Carolina Tar Heels at Kenan memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The game has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPNews. Current Vegas odds have the Tar Heels listed as 16 point favorites, while the total is set at 60.

Analysis: The San Diego State Aztecs have now had 4 winning years in a row, with the last 3 being under the guidance of Rocky Long. This year there is rebuilding to do on both sides of the ball as the Aztecs are rated 104th in the nation in experience and have just 4 starters back on defense. The Aztecs opened their season with a rather easy 38-7 win over Northern Arizona, despite the fact that they outgained them by just 87 yards in the game. The Aztecs put up just 399 yards in the game, but was able to run the ball with 194 yards on the ground and at 5.2 ypc. Leading the ground attack was Donnel Pumphrey, who ran for 111 yards on 19 carries and had two TDs as well. QB Quinn Kaehler had a decent game, hitting 18-29 passes for 205 yards, a TD and an INT. The defense for the Aztecs had a solid game as they held the Lumberjacks to just 312 total yards, including just 188 yards through the air.

The North Carolina Tar Heels have been very consistent in the last 6 years, grabbing either 8 or 7 wins in each year. Now with 15 starters back and being in the 3 rd year of Larry Fedora’s systems, they are looking to take the next step and walk away with the Coastal Division in the ACC. The Tar Heels opened up their season with a win as they beat Liberty by a score of 56-29. It wasn’t easy early as the Tar Heels led by just 21-15 at the half, but they really ran away with it in the 2nd half. The Heels weren’t all that impressive on offense in this game. Sure they racked up 443 yards, but their yards per play was rather weak in both rushing (4.3 ypc) and passing (5.7 ypa). The offense also turned the ball over 4 times. Overall it was a lackluster effort by the offense here. The defense was pretty good as they allowed just 346 total yards, while also allowing just 4.6 ypp and 36% on third downs.

Pick: Going to look under here. The Heels scored 56 and allowed 29 in their opening game, but they still didn’t play a good offensive game, while their defense looked very good despite being put in bad position by their offense. The Aztecs are a rather pedestrian offensive team and are built more for defense. They play a good defensive game in their opener, while their offense was just average. This OU line is just too high for a couple of team that are pretty good on the defensive side of the ball. Look for a game in the lower 50’s at best.
