2014 Colorado Buffaloes Football Preview, Schedule

The Colorado Buffaloes made some progress last year, going 4-8, after a 1-10 season in 2012 and a 3-10 season in 2011. This year the Buffaloes have the most lettermen back of any team in the Pac-12, which includes 16 starters, but this them may have been so far behind the league that any improvements may not show up in the standings. Preview & schedule below

The Colorado offense was pretty good last year, putting up 25.4 ppg and many of the key players are back this year. Sefo Liufau is back at QB, after splitting time with Connor Wood last year. Sefo had an average year, but is really the only option, as no other QB on the roaster has thrown an FBS pass. The Buffalo did lose a big weapon in the WR corps, as Paul Richardson (1343 yards and 10 TDs LY) is gone. With his departure there are only two player back that had more than 14 catches last year. The running game looks to be solid with Christian Powell and Michael Adkins back after they combined for 1097 yards and 9 TDs last year. Still a work in progress there as the run game averaged just 3.4 ypc last year. Part of that was due to a young an inexperienced OL that should be better this year with 3 starters back. Defense is where this team has really struggled the last few years, but we should see improvement this year with 30 lettermen back, including 8 starters. The secondary isn’t all that bad as it ranks near the middle of the pack in the Pac-12, with 3 starters back, including Greg Henderson, who had 10 PBUs and 4 INTs last year. The front 7 has a bit more depth than last year and they are improved, but still overall they will struggle again this year.

The Buffaloes are an improved team on both sides of the ball, especially on offense, but if Sefo goes down then this team will be in big trouble as they just don’t have anyone to step in right now. The defense has been bad for year, but they are an improved group this year, especially and secondary, but still I expect them to allow at least 30+ ppg on the year. Colorado won 4 games last year, but two of them were vs FCS foes. This year while being an improved tem, they are still pretty far behind the rest of the Pac-12 South that it looks like another year in the basement and no more than 3 wins overall.    KEY TREND: 2-11 ATS on the road off BB SU losses.
