Major League Baseball Odds — New York Mets vs Philadelphia Phillies

New York Mets: 5 Possible Batting Orders for 2013

The New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies begin their series this afternoon when the Phillies host the Mets in the first of five games. The game will see the first pitch at 7:05 p.m. (EST) and the Major League Baseball Odds for the contest have Phillies favored to pick up a win.

Both these teams are below the .500 mark in the record column, but both have high expectations for the rest of the season. The Mets have been a .500 ballclub on the road this season, going 11-11. Philadelphia has for whatever reason struggled mightily in home games, going 11-15. The Phillies will want to pick up some wins in this series as they look to continue to move up the National League standings.

A win here tonight would be the third straight for the Mets, which would be a season high. They've also won five straight in Philadelphia and in the Mets' recent streak over the Phillies they've held a 29-12 scoring edge. The Mets fell in nine of their last 12 games overall, but picked up a pair of victories over the Pittsburgh Pirates heading into this one. The Mets will play their next 11 games on the road and 25 of their next 33 games overall will be away from their home park.

David Wright is hitting the ball well. He's in an 11-game hit streak and holds a .383 average during those games.

The Mets will give the ball to Zack Wheeler, who has a 3.18 ERA against the Phillies in two starts last season, finishing 0-1. So far this season he has been knocked around, holding a 4.63 ERA while sporting a 1-5 record.

David Buchanan is getting the ball for the Phillies as he is filling in for Cliff Lee, who is on the disabled list. Buchanan is 1-0 this season with a 3.60 ERA after winning his Major League debut over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Tonight we like a lot of runs to be scored in this contest. Both lineups should be able to produce some hits against these pitchers.

Free Pick: New York 7, Philadelphia 5
