2014 Minnesota Twins World Series Odds

Last year the Minnesota Twins finished just above the White Sox in the AL Central with a 66-96 record. This year the prospect don’t look all that much better for them to have a year any better than last year. Vegas Odds have the Twins at +7000 to win the AL Pennant and +12500 to win the World Series.

The Twins ranked 25th last year in runs scored (614), 18th in homers (181) and 25th in batting average (.242). The Twins did add Kurt Suzuki who is a solid defensive catcher, but lost Ryan Doumit, who is a better offensive player. Josh Willingham, Trevor Plouffe, Joe Mauer, and Jason Kubel will give them some good power, but after those guys its all about trying to manufacture runs. There just isn’t a whole lot to get excited about this offense and they should be a below average group once again.

The Twins were ranked second to last in ERA at 4.55, while allowing teams to hit .280 off of them, which was dead last in the league. Some help is on the way in the form of Ricky Nolasco, who threw for 200+ innings last year for the marlins and Phil Hughes, whose best stuff is still inside. Now time to let out. LOL. Mike Pelfrey looks to bounce back from a miserable year, while Vance Worley has shown in the past that he can be a very good starter in this league. Kevin Correia rounds out the rotation, and has been an average at best pitcher in his career. The Closers position is in good hands with Glen Perkins, but the rest of the pen is rather weak and will struggle this year.

Outlook: The Twins look like they are headed for a long year. They do have some pop on the lineup, but will still struggle to score many runs. Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes will help the staff, but still this is a below average rotation. The twins won 66 games a year ago and im not sure they can top that this year as they finish in the basement of the AL Central.
