NCAA Basketball Picks San Diego State Aztec vs Wyoming Cowboys

College Basketball on Tuesday night and we will see the San Diego State Aztecs travel to Laramie, Wyoming to take on the Wyoming Cowboys. The game has a start time of 11:05 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Vegas odds have the Aztecs listed as 4 point favorites, while the total sits at 118.

Analysis: San Diego State’s winning streak is the third-longest in the nation, as they have now gone nearly three months without a loss. The Aztecs are 21-1 on the year and have won their last 20 games in a row. A win here would set a school record for most wins in a row. The Aztecs have averaged a modest 70.2 ppg on 42.5% shooting for the year. The Aztecs are led by senior guard Xavier Thames, who scores 18.1 ppg. Winston Shepard is the only other double digit scorer on the team at 12.9 ppg, while Josh Davis is one of the better rebounders in the nation at 11 rpg. Offense, though, isn't the strong suit of this team, but rather their defense is. The Aztecs come in 3rd in scoring defense (56.6 ppg), 3rd in defensive FG% (37.1%) and 7th in 3pt FG % against (27.9).

The Wyoming Cowboys come in off a tough game at UNLV, in which they lost 48.46. Wyoming now stands at 14-9 overall and 5-5 within the MWC. The Cowboys are less than average on offense as they come in having scored just 65 ppg on 48% shooting, which isnt that bad at all. The Cowboys have 3 starters that average in double figures in Larry Nance Jr (15.8 ppg), Josh Adams (11.8 ppg) and Riley Grabau (11.1 ppg). Larry Nance not only leads the team in scoring but rebounding as well with 8.8 rpg. Like the Aztecs, defense is a staple of this team as they come in ranked 15th in the nation in points allowed (60.4 ppg) and 55th in defensive FG% (40.4%). The Cowboys’ five conference losses are by a total of 18 points.

Pick: The Under is the way to go with this one. Wyoming has a knack for dragging teams into their style of play and this one should be no different. Actually the Aztecs should oblige, since they don't play uptempo basketball anyway. The Cowboys just took on an uptempo UNLV team and nearly won the game with the slow down score, bust still just 94 total points were scored in that game. This game features two very strong defensive teams as the Aztecs check in allowing just 56.6 ppg (3rd in nation) on just 37.1% shooting (3rd in nation), while the Cowboys have allowed just 60.4 ppg (15th) on 40.4% shooting (54th). Here is a good indication of how slow the Cowboys play, they are 14th in the nation in FG% (48.8%), but just 303rd in scoring at 65.3 ppg. The Aztecs are average on offense, scoring just 73.4 ppg on 44.3% shooting, which is 184th in the nation, plus they are ranked just 298th at the charity stripe, hitting just 65.7% of their free throws. This should be an ugly offensive display vs two accomplished defenses in what should be an extremely slow paced game. Look for around 110 points in this one.
