NCAA Basketball Picks Washington Huskies vs Stanford Cardinal

College basketball on Saturday night and we will see the Washington Huskies travel to Maples Pavilion to take on the Stanford Cardinal. The game has a start time of 11:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN U. Vegas odds have the Stanford listed as 9.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 145.5.

Analysis: The huskies are looking to bounce back from an embarrassing 26 point road loss to California. The setback ended a two-game win streak for the Huskies, who are 11-7 overall and 3-2 in conference. On offense, the Huskies are next-to-last in the league in field goal percentage (44.3%), despite netting a solid 76.2 ppg. CJ Wilcox (20.3 ppg) is the second-leading scorer in the conference, while Andrew Andrews (12.8 ppg), Nigel Williams-Goss (12.1 ppg, 4.1 apg) and Perris Blackwell (10.3 ppg, 7 rpg) have been consistent double-digit scorers for most of the campaign as well. Junior Mike Anderson has faded after an impressive non-conference run, averaging three points and 5.9 rebounds over his last seven games.

Stanford is off an impressive 80-48 win over Washington State. The win was their second straight and the third in their last five games for a Cardinal team that is 11-5 overall, including 2-2 in their league bouts. The Cardinal has been solid at both ends of the court, scoring 76.9 ppg on 48.9% shooting, while allowing just 69.1 ppg on 40.7% shooting. Chasson Randle (18.6 ppg) leads the team in scoring and he is an all around good shooter, hitting 50.5% from the floor, 42.4% from beyond the arc, and 78.4% at the free-throw line. Dwight Powell (14 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.2 apg), Anthony Brown (13.8 ppg) and Josh Huestis (10.8 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 2 bpg), all are big contributors on this team as well.  Powell, who has averaged 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in four career games against the Huskies, leads the team with 25 steals. Stanford is 1-9 against Washington under Dawkins.

Pick: I will be going with the Under in this one. The Cardinal plays good defense at home, allowing just 67.5 ppg on 39.5% shooting, while in their last 5 games overall they have allowed just 68 ppg on 42.2% shooting. The Huskies gave up 82 points to California in heir last game, but still this is a team that had been playing great defense as they allowed just 62.8 ppg in their 5 games prior to the California debacle. Stanford does score 75 ppg at home, but after heir last game I can see the Huskies really getting after them defensively and hold Stanford to no more than 72 points. The Cardinal should have little problem holding a Washington team that scores just 66 ppg on the road in the 60's here. 72-63 sounds about right.
