College Basketball Arizona Wildcats vs San Diego State Aztecs

The 6th ranked Arizona Wildcats face a tough early season road test as they will clash with the San Diego State Aztecs in a non-league battle at Viejas Arena. The game has a start time of 10:05 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on CBSSN. Vegas odds have Arizona listed as 3.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 147.

Analysis: Although they are only two games into the season, the Wildcats have lived up to their billing with wins in each of the first two matchups. Both came at home for the Wildcats, who got past Cal Poly (73-62) in the opener and then routed Long Beach State (91-57). The Wildcats had 22 assists to just 11 turnovers and also shot at a 58.6 percent clip in the win over the 49ers. Freshman forward Aaron Gordon averaged 13.5 points and 10 rebounds in his first two games. In the win over Long Beach State, Gordon finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The highly regarded Gordon is likely off to the NBA after this season and is interested in refining his game while trying to lead the Wildcats to the Final Four.

San Diego State is beginning this season on a three-game homestand and they had no troubles in their opening game, beat UC Riverside 77-41. The Aztecs shot at just a 41.8 percent rate in the win but had a 27-8 edge from the free-throw line and also forced 21 turnovers and turned those miscues into 18 points. Senior forward Josh Davis had 11 points and eight rebounds against UC Riverside in his first game since transferring from Tulane, where he had 19 double-doubles while averaging 17.6 points and 10.7 rebounds for the Green Wave last year. San Diego State has won 11 of its last 12 meetings against Pac-12 programs.

Pick: Going with the Wildcats here. Arizona is highly ranked and with good reason, because this team is loaded and very balanced with 5 players that average double digits and a 6th player that has scored 8.5 ppg. San Diego State will be a good team this year and they blasted UC Riverside, but they really take a step up in competition here. This is Arizona's first true road test, but they are ready for the challenge and would like a little payback for the last time they visited here, which was back in 2009 and was a 17 point loss. I look for Arizona to show they are for real with a big road win over the Aztecs tonight.
