College Football Odds Cincinnati Bearcats vs Memphis Tigers

College football on Wednesday night and we will see the Cincinnati Bearcats travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the Memphis Tigers. The game will televised on ESPN 2 and has a start time of 8:00 pm (Eastern). Vegas odds have Cincinnati listed as 2.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 44.5.

Analysis: The Cincinnati enter this game on a two game win streak and they are 5-2 overall. The Bearcats lost quarterback Munchie Legaux to a season-ending knee injury in the second game of the season. Two weeks later, Cincinnati was dealt a more severe blow when freshman guard Ben Flick was killed and two other players were injured in a car accident following a victory at Miami (Ohio). Brendon Kay, who took over for Legaux following his injury, is completing 79.4 percent of his passes in conference play and tied a career high with four touchdown passes in the Bearcats’ 41-16 victory over Connecticut. The defense for the Bearcats has been very solid this year as they come in ranked 7th overall, 10th vs the pass, 10th vs the run and 10th in points allowed, allowing just 17.6 ppg. The Bearcats allowed a second-half touchdown for the first time in five contests in their victory over Connecticut.

Memphis took its third straight loss in a 34-29 setback to Southern Methodist on Oct. 19, trailing by as many as 31 before scoring the final 26 points. That loss put Memphis at 1-5 on the year overall and 0-3 in the newly formed AAC. Despite the poor schedule, this is a team that has played defense very well this year, ranking 13th in total defense and are tied for 34th in scoring defense after finishing 51st and 80th, respectively, in 2012. Clearly the defense is not the reason that this team sits at 1-5 on the year, but rather their offense that ranks 93rd overall and 107th in scoring (20.2 ppg). Penalties have also been a problem for this team as they have given up an average of 80 penalty yards per game (the second-highest mark in FBS) and have draw 9 penalties or more in half their games this year.

Pick: I like the Bearcats in this game Both teams play great defense, but the edge on offense clearly goes to Cincinnati as they have scored 34 ppg, while the Tigers have put up just 20.2 ppg. Memphis also makes too many mental mistakes with all the penalties they have committed this year. Memphis is tough on defense, but just not sure hey can come up with enough points to get the win in this one. Bearcats by at least a TD here.
