Texas football has taken a major hit over the last three seasons with the program tallying 22 wins and 16 losses. It took a step in the right direction last season, though, posting a 9-4 record after beating a favored Oregon State squad 31-27 in the Alamo Bowl. With 19 starters and 53 lettermen back from last year's team, many are calling for the 2013 Longhorns to win the school's first Big 12 Championship since 2009. Texas is a second conference pick at 5Dimes (behind Oklahoma State +260), drawing a +295 money line, ($100 wins $295) and it is favored to win over 9.5 games at -125 odds ($125 wins $100). A preview of Texas' schedule does point toward a possible 10 or more win season, a development which could save long time head coach Mack Brown from being forced into retirement.
There are no shortage of quality teams on Texas 2013 schedule, but the Longhorns would seemingly have the talent to overcome most of them. Early college football lines from the Golden Nugget and LVH suggest that anyway. The Golden Nugget has lined every Texas game this season with the exception of its opener against New Mexico State and the Longhorns are favored in every contest, including meetings with Kansas State (-9.5), Oklahoma (-2.5), TCU (-3), Oklahoma State (-6), and Baylor (-7).
Texas lost to the Wildcats, Sooners, and Horned Frogs last season by an average of 22.3 points per game, but it knocked off Oklahoma State 41-36 in Stillwater and Baylor 56-50 at Texas Memorial Stadium.
