Analysis: Hiroki Kuroda spent his first four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, compiling only one winning season before leaving to sign with the New York Yankees. Kuroda won a career-high 16 games in 2012 and has supplanted CC Sabathia as New York's staff ace this year. Kuroda is in the midst of his best stretch of the season, winning three consecutive starts and yielding only two runs during that span. He has not allowed a run in three of his last four starts spanning 26 innings and has not permitted a home run in that stretch after coughing up five in back-to-back starts. Kuroda beat the Dodgers on June 19, giving up two runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. New York opened an eight-game trip by recording five hits while losing for the ninth time in 13 contests. Lyle Overbay homered and drove in both runs for the Yankees. Derek Jeter went 0 for 4 after he homered and had two hits Sunday in his return from missing 2 1/2 weeks with a quad injury. Alfonso Soriano is 4-for-11 with a pair of homers against Kershaw.
Los Angeles has won four straight and is 10-1 since the All-Star break to open a 3 1/2-game lead over Arizona atop the National League West. The Dodgers are riding a streak of eight straight one-run victories, including back-to-back walk-off wins. Mark Ellis, who delivered the game-winning single in Tuesday's 3-2 victory, is riding an 11-game hitting streak during which he is batting .415 and has knocked in eight runs. With two more hits and a run driven in, Hanley Ramirez is batting .375 with 10 RBIs during his 11-game hitting streak. He's 7 for 21 with two doubles against Kuroda. Clayton Kershaw, the only starter in the majors with an ERA below 2.00, is 5-1 in his last six starts, allowing a total of nine runs during that stretch. He limited Cincinnati to one run in eight innings last time out and gave up two runs in seven innings in a victory over Washington in his previous outing. His lone start versus the Yankees came in 2010, when he allowed two runs in seven innings.
Pick: Have to go with the under here. The Yankee offense continues to struggle, having scored just 3.4 rpg in their last 10 games and I don't feel they will get early that much off of the leagues ERA leader, Clayton Kershaw. Clayton comes in with a 1.96 ERA overall and 1.74 ERA at home. The Dodgers are just 6-6 in his home starts, cause they have averaged just 2.33 rpg for him at home. I guess the offense knows they don't have to score much, cause he won't give up much. Even if they tried to score to night they won't get much anyway vs Hiroki Kurodo, who has allowed just 2 ER's combined in his last 4 starts, posting an 0.69 ERA over that stretch. On the road this year hae has a 3.18 ERA and the Under is 9-1-1 in his 11 starts away from home. You can also expect a fully focused effort from Hiroki tonight as he will be facing his old team. He will also be facing a Ddgers team that is slowing down some offensively, having scored just 2.4 rpg in their last 5 games. Clayton's home starts have averaged just 5 rpg this year and I'm nt even sure these teams will get that much. A Pitcher's duel in LA tonight.
