NFL Sunday San Diego Chargers at Cleveland Browns: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-154482449_crop_650x440

NFL Week 8 continues on Sunday and we will see the San Diego Chargers travel to Ohio to take on the Cleveland Browns. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM (Eastern) start time and it will be televised live on CBS. Currently the odds for the game have San Diego favored by 3 points while the total sits at 43.5.  Currently 74% of the Public is on San Diego, while 51% is on the Over. Find out what side the Public is taking on all the games by clicking HERE.

Free Analysis: Coach Norv Turner and Co. were riding a wave of giddy momentum through the first four weeks of the season -- winning three times and establishing an early lead in the AFC West -- but they'll be trying to right the collective ship this week when they head to northeast Ohio to face the Cleveland Browns. The Chargers gave up 17 straight points to lose to the previously winless New Orleans Saints in Week 5, then gave up 35 straight in the second half to erase a 24-0 lead in a loss to Peyton Manning and the division rival Denver Broncos in Week 6.  Phillip Rivers has completed 66.5 percent of his passes with 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions while being sacked 18 times and while he is strong armed, he still tends to make bad decisions at key times. Ryan Mathews is averaging 4.5 yards per carry with a touchdown and he has 17 catches out of the backfield, while Malcolm Floyd has 25 catches and a touchdown, Ronnie Brown has 20 catches out of the backfield, and Antonio Gates has 19 catches and two touchdowns. The Chargers defense allows 22.8 points per game, 71.2 rushing yards, and 268.2 passing yards with seven interceptions and 10 sacks. Atari Bigby has 41 tackles, Eric Weddle has 33 tackles, and Shaun Phillips has 4.5 sacks.

The Cleveland Browns are undergoing a mid-season overhaul in the front office as the team has been sold and they are hoping to build a winning product on the field in the near future. Cleveland had a chance for a two-game winning streak, but turned it over on downs at the Indianapolis 39 with 1:54 remaining. QB Brandon Weeden is still settling into his role but he is improving completing 56.6 percent of his passes with nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions while being sacked 11 times. Weeden, who is coming off the best statistical game of his brief career with two touchdown passes and a 96.0 rating, may have to emulate Brees and Manning if rookie running back Trent Richardson continues to struggle with injuries. Richardson, who said he has not played at full-speed yet this season, had eight yards on eight carries last week before being benched at halftime as he tried to play with a rib cartilage injury. Richardson said he intends to be ready Sunday. Defensively Cleveland is allowing 25.7 points per game, 133.7 rushing yards, and 276.9 passing yards with 10 interceptions and 18 sacks. Buster Skrine has 49 tackles, D’Qwell Jackson has 46 tackles and three sacks with two interceptions, and Joe Haden has two interceptions.

Free Pick: Gonna go with the Bolts in this one. San Diego is clearly the more talented team in this one, especially on offense, where the Chargers average 25.7 ppg, compared to the 21 ppg that the Browns put up. Cleveland has had a tough time running the ball and it may be even tougher if Richardson can’t go. Without a running game this solid Charger pass rush should be able to get to and rattle Weedon and force him into some mistakes. The Cleveland defense has been pretty week this year, allowing 410 ypg and 25.7 ppg on the year and that is good news for a SD offense that hasn’t been as explosive as in years past. With the week off San Diego will be energized and should come up with enough big plays to get the solid win here.
