NBA Finals Recap

06/21/2010 2:33 PM ·

The NBA ended its 82-game regular season on April 14 and its postseason began on April 17. The league's 2010 champion was crowned on June 17, when the Celtics and Lakers played the 82nd game of this year's postseason. As I like to point out often, sports has a way of producing a lot of symmetry. The Lakers won the 17th Game 7 in NBA Finals history last Thursday, 83-79 (home teams are now 14-3 in The Finals and 85-19 in... Read more

The Celtics won Game 5 of the NBA Finals 92-86 on Sunday night, taking a 3-2 series lead. The game really wasn't as close as the final score, as the Lakers never led after owning a 37-36 lead and in watching the game, one never felt the Celtics "weren't going to win." Kobe scored 38 points, his second straight and third 30-point effort of The Finals (it marked his 78th, 30-point game of his postseason career), as well... Read more

Kobe scored 33 points (had 10 of LA final 12 points) and Gasol added 21 points (six rebounds) for the Lakers in Game 4 but it was not enough to overcome poor efforts by just about all the other Lakers. Bynum (two points and three rebounds) was limited to just 12 minutes (all in the first half), as his sore right knee is becoming a big issue in this series. Artest was "defensively challenged" in Game 4 plus he continues... Read more

Kobe had his "game face" on right from the beginning and while the Celtics jumped out to a 6-0 lead in Game 3 of the NBA Finals, the Lakers would go on a 15-1 spurt in the first quarter to take control early. It was 37-20 LA into the second quarter and 52-40 LA by the half. The Celtics were actually lucky to not be further down, as they made just 6-of-12 FTs in the first half while misfiring on all but two of their 13... Read more

The Celtics manhandled the Lakers in the 2008 Finals. Kobe shot just 40.5 percent in that series, Gasol averaged 14.2-102. but was labeled 'soft' plus Bynum was sidelined due to a season-ending injury. The Celtics were led by their new version of the "Big Three" and the group delivered. Pierce (21.2-4.5-6.3) was named MVP, KG averaged 18.2-13.0 posting six straight "double-doubles" while Allen averaged 17.2 PPG. After... Read more

NBA Finals preview

06/02/2010 2:35 PM ·

The Celtics hardly looked like a team capable of winning the East after the team finished 50-32 during the regular season, good enough for just the East's fourth seed. Boston muddled through its last 54 regular-season games with a 27-27 record but easily dispatched of the Heat in five game in the first round. The Celtics suffered the worst home playoff loss in team history in Game 3 of their semifinal series with the... Read more
