Today marked the return of the big European Leagues following the international break:
Well, the soccer world has OFFICIALLY been turned on its head. After 13 games, Leicester City is on top of the English Premier league table. Jamie Vardy is continuing to light up the league after scoring a goal in his 10th consecutive Premier league game. Just remarkable, but this couldn't have happened without other results...
And those results came in the form of Manchester City and Arsenal stumbling on their return from the international break. Manchester City was completely blitzed at home by a Liverpool team that is gaining steam under Jurgen Klopp. This was definitely a fine win for the Reds.
Arsenal on the other hand, took the lead on the road and then proceeded to give it up over the next 12 minutes. A generous penalty call in the 84th minute gave the Gunners the chance to potentially salvage a point, but Santi Cazorla slipped and sent the ball over the crossbar. There are big problems for Arsenal. Midfielders Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin left the game injured, adding to injury woes. On Tuesday, Arsenal plays Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in a must-win game. Zagreb won the first leg 2-1 at home, but if Arsenal wants any chance of getting out of the group stage, then they have to win.
The Premier League has been fantastic this year. Still prefer La Liga, but the logjam at the top is going to make the EPL fun to watch all year.
