CHIEFS +.5 -130 (1ST QUARTER)
“Pumpkin Patch”
Intro
Why just the 1st quarter? Because in the Chief’s last 8 playoff games, they scored the 1st time possessing the ball. Plus, the whole world is with KC. You all know what that means.
Game Wreckers
Welcome to the NFL’s yearly version of “Amateur Hour,” just like on New Year’s Eve when even those who never drink and/or party feel the need on this specific date to clog the nation’s bars, nightclubs and restaurants all to act a fool; so too is Super Bowl Sunday as millions who are clueless to what football even is feel the need to disturb us “grinders” with numerous and annoying questions on the who and what to bet on. Ironically, these same people barely watch 2 seconds of the game as they gather to drink, talk about their kids, where they went on vacation, and/or how their significant other annoys them. Oh wait, that is the bloviating sports talk radio hosts who inherently think their thoughts matter in life and that those who listen care! Not to mention all the annoying “Swifites” that will affect every aspect of your viewing experience. Shocking as it is, I would like to bid adieu to another NFL season in my “comfort zone.” This personal “paradise” consists of my favorite worn-in and form-fitting Barka chair in peace! No sportsbook, parties, or even a friend to annoy me for 3+ hours. No, it's my favorite bottle of Gin, homemade treats, a 72-inch 4K TV, and most importantly a good-smelling bathroom just a few short steps away! Now that's how you do it!
Go Away!
In addition to the annoying “Swifties” invasion along with the same old and stale sports radio gibberish; we are also barraged nonstop by the self-indulged/know-it-all ex-athletes and media bloviators (sometimes one in the same) who are asked now to talk about the Chiefs, 49ers, Vegas, politics, betting lines, cheap products (which they are pimping and know absolutely nothing about), soon to fail businesses, and in the end, mercifully inform us whom they like in the game. This “dribble” is all just a set-up for the end of their boring, mundane, and useless interviews; these “has-beens” attempt to play “salesman” by hawking everything they know nothing about from suspect “nutritional” supplements to the latest male enhancement products that promised to make us men feel 20 years younger and “perform” as we are still in college. After listening all week to these bloated “has-beens” desperately trying in vain to grab their last buck and hold onto faded glory, I am now totally convinced that today’s athletes are 100% “clean” and that the reason they are 40+ years old and still playing, look like Greek God’s, and can still run a 4.2 40 is because they drink nitro juice, eat Kale and get 8 hours sleep a night zipped up in their hyperbaric oxygen chamber. You too can be just like them for the cost of what your mortgage currently is, but hey you only live once?
Legal “Thievery”
I am sure you have overheard this week numerous clueless radio/TV “thespians” who have “mythically” seemed to have unearthed the “treasure chest” of life-changing riches by finding the inequities within the prop market and claiming that if you the listener follow them you too will reap these bountiful rewards. B.S. It is all a sham. I tend to shy away from these money-draining inducements. Theoretically, I am not against those who do the required work and invest accordingly just like in any other market, but props are not my strength and due to numerous “sledgehammers” to my head, somehow, I have survived to know my limitations. With these “party teases” (props) I tend to dabble ever so lightly or not at all. The rake taken back by the sportsbooks on these props is enormous. This is why each year there is more than the previous year and done primarily for the “square” player to lose his shirt on everything, but the actual game spread itself. My advice is if you are a novice at the props market go with your instincts or a very “trusted source” who has shown long-term results and not looking to “steal” your cash with some outlandish claims or some “media hack” who historically loses his bets. Have you ever asked yourself why these bloated and visibly depressed talking heads give out their daily useless sports takes and bets on the air and are not living the life as a professional sports investor if he is such a Svengali? “Loserville” sounds better on FM that is why! But as usual, when discussing the sports media in general I digress so let us get back on track.
Ugly Lights
Welcome to the end of one of the most diverse and to me exciting NFL seasons in recent memory. The emergence of new talent, philosophies, and player/team transition will make this one of the most intriguing of off-seasons in the league’s history. I cannot wait to see how it all plays out over the next 6 months as I am already anticipating next September. But before we find out what is behind door number 2 and look forward to the 2024 season, we must put a bow on 2021 with 2 teams in Kansas City and San Francisco that are highly deserving of their place at the “big boy” table with the winner earning the title of champion. Yet why is it that as I painfully overhear many of the “sheep” in the media and public alike claim that it's “unbelievable” that a KC team is even in this position to win the SB. Do you remember just back 6 weeks on Christmas they got beat at home by of all teams the Raiders that didn't even complete a pass for 3 quarters and gashed them on the ground? Why? What is wrong with a team in KC that is led by 3 HOF’s Mahomes, Kelsey, and Reid to adapt, overcome, and persevere? In hindsight was it not easily predictable that 2 classic underachievers when the lights are the brightest Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen were destined to come up short even against a limited Chiefs squad? Or conversely, those who are picking the Chiefs simply because there is no way that Mr. Irrelevant (Purdy) could beat his counterpart and 1st ballot HOF Mahomes on this the grandest of all stages. In both instances this irrational resistance by many got me thinking once again and unfortunately for you, the reader got me thinking. So, for one last time this football season, you will have to put up with my always long, nauseating, but hopefully informative version of “Psychobabble”
Last Time
Weekly readers of my post know by now how this goes as I just can never post my side and move on. Unlike most of the fraudulent, arrogant, and biased charlatans who must back their useless theories and scientific models by showing us all the useless and nauseating stats and trends. backing their mostly losing selections as many others do (how boring- I can find the same if not more counter angles to their one-sided biased argument). No, I need to satisfy my need to feed my oversized ego by delving into the minds and psyche of the players, coaches, and organizations and extend this analysis into society on the impetus behind my coin flip of a selection today.
No Way!
Denial is prevalent across all scopes of humanity. It can be widely seen and heard throughout society to which no one is immune. This silent affliction can be more prevalent in some more than others as it is the primary defense mechanism for most criminals, politicians, or those who get their preverbal “hands caught in the cookie jar.” This affliction knows no bounds and dare I say even the past Covid epidemic with all its irritable little variants would have to acknowledge that the denial epidemic has no equal. This acceptance is universally acknowledged by all except for a few that seem to all come together and all work for the bloviating sports wagering media (you know who you are) who when confronted with a losing selection for which they boasted before the event come back on the air to double down by stating that not only did they get off the selection in play they kept firing on the other side and made put “like a bandit” in the end.
PhD’s
This debilitating condition is only trumped by those across the entire sports media landscape when they inform us that the Chiefs are their selection today to lift the Lombardi trophy by defeating the 49ers simply because “they can’t see Purdy beating Mahomes.” Wow, what a breakdown! What would we ever do without these self-described Svengalis?
If we get out of the microscopic sports world and add society, we can find denial that is currently exposed in the current administration which will undoubtedly leave a carnage of collated damage that will take future generations years to “clean up.”
Blind Leading the Blind
All of this denial throughout society got me thinking once again (never good) on why denial is so prevalent within us as humans that it can take the most mild-mannered individual and turn them into a raving lunatic that is void of any rationally, objectivity, and common sense when it comes to some of the most polarizing topics of our modern day. Instead of doing the proper research to find the facts they would rather just participate in a massive form of groupthink that leads them astray on topics such as Covid, global warming, religion, politics, and for us in the sports investing genre the fact that Brock Purdy is the starting QB in today's Super Bowl. Let me say that again, Brock Purdy in the year 2023 (2024) is 1 win away from being called a Super Bowl starting QB champion. See even I must have some denial in me!
Deny-Deny-Deny
Denial, in ordinary English usage, has at least three meanings: asserting that any statement or allegation is not true (which might be accurate or inaccurate); the refusal of a request; and asserting that a true statement is not true. This article covers only a third of those meanings: people's assertions that true factual claims are not true. In psychology, denialism is a person's choice to deny reality to avoid psychologically uncomfortable truths.
In psychoanalytic theory, denial is a defense mechanism in which a person is faced with a fact that is too uncomfortable to accept and rejects it instead, insisting that it is not true despite what may be overwhelming evidence. The concept of denial is important in twelve-step programs where the abandonment or reversal of denial that substance dependence is problematic forms the basis of the first, fourth, fifth, eighth, and tenth steps.
People who are exhibiting symptoms of a serious medical condition sometimes deny or ignore those symptoms because the idea of having a serious health problem is uncomfortable or disturbing. The American Heart Association cites denial as a principal reason that treatment of a heart attack is delayed. Because the symptoms are so varied and often have other potential explanations, the opportunity exists for the patient to deny the emergency, often with fatal consequences. It is common for patients to delay recommended mammograms or other tests because of a fear of cancer, even on average this worsens the long-term medical outcome.
Only The Facts, Please
Denial is a defense mechanism in which an individual refuses to recognize or acknowledge objective facts or experiences. It is an unconscious process that serves to protect the person from discomfort or anxiety.
For example, a loved one may insist that she does not have a problem with alcohol, despite interfering with work and family life. Or a loyal employee may refuse to see signs that his boss is stealing from the company.
Freudian Slip
The concept arose from the work of Sigmund Freud, whose daughter, Anna Freud, developed the idea of defense mechanisms, unconscious strategies whereby people protect themselves from anxious thoughts or feelings. Anna believed that denial unconsciously protected the ego from discomfort and distress by rejecting aspects of reality itself. Denial was primarily used in childhood and adolescence, she believed and could be damaging when employed regularly in adulthood.
Although many of Freud's ideas have been disproven, psychologists today still believe that defense mechanisms like denial are a valid concept.
Truth Hurts
Denial can encompass truths too difficult for an individual to confront or accept. Yet therapy offers a space to process those beliefs and experiences safely and gradually. It can help people understand the roots of their emotions and behavior, eventually replacing denial with healthier coping skills.
Who Me?
Denial is important to address in therapy because it reveals underlying challenges that are often causing an individual distress. If someone drinks excessively, exploring why they drink—to medicate their anxiety, for example—allows the patient to discuss their experience and develop skills to manage anxiety. Similarly, if a woman denies that a relationship is abusive, she may be struggling with fears around abandonment, loneliness, or past relationships that a therapist can help her navigate.
Drinking Games
Few people easily and quickly accept the conclusion that they have a problem with alcohol or substance use. Many struggle mightily against it and craft a variety of arguments to demonstrate that they do not have a problem. A few of the most common forms of denial: “All of my friends drink more than I do.” “I’m too successful to have a drinking problem.” And “I only use when…” Recognizing instances of denial and misdirection is an important first step in acknowledging the problem and seeking help.
Cycle Class?
Yes, people can struggle to understand or acknowledge that they have a disorder. For example, bipolar disorder is a condition in which someone’s mood cycles through periods of depression and mania. Mania is a state of euphoria characterized by extremely high energy, overconfidence, and impulsive behavior. Hypomania is a mild or moderate version of that state. A feature of mania and hypomania is denying that anything is wrong or unusual.
No Smoking
Denial can shape dynamics in different domains of life, whether that be ignoring relationship conflicts or refusing to acknowledge an illness. In many of these instances, denial leads to short-term satisfaction but long-term pain. In the end, confronting reality—even when it is difficult—is the best path forward.
As a defense mechanism, denial involves a refusal to accept the truth or reality. "No, I'm just a social smoker," is a good example. People may apply a similar justification for other harmful habits, such as excessive alcohol or substance use and compulsive gambling or shopping, to unconsciously distance themselves from uncomfortable truths of their behavior and protect their self-esteem.
Self-Quarantine?
Common defense mechanisms can undermine healthy relationships. In the case of denial, people may isolate themselves against their flaws and mistakes. They might pretend that everything is fine and ignore their own negative emotions or disagreements within the relationship. This can prevent the problem from being acknowledged, discussed, and resolved. Even though it may be more difficult in the short term, confronting these difficulties will strengthen the relationship eventually.
Follow The Money?
Desire, greed, or the need for status can override rational considerations and shape our spending habits. For instance, someone may love to shop, even though they are not financially secure and are accruing debt. Psychologically they may deny their financial reality to continue buying items they cannot afford. This prevents the person from admitting to factual limitations that feel constricting or upsetting.
The Defense Rests
Defense Mechanism, in psychoanalytic theory, is any of a group of mental processes that enables the mind to reach compromise solutions to conflicts that it is unable to resolve. The process is usually unconscious, and the compromise involves concealing from oneself internal drives or feelings that threaten to lower self-esteem or provoke anxiety. The concept derives from the psychoanalytic hypothesis that there are forces in the mind that oppose and battle against each other. The term was first used in Sigmund Freud’s paper “The Neuro-Psychoses of Defense” (1894). Some of the major defense mechanisms described by psychoanalysts are the following:
Repression- It is the withdrawal from consciousness of an unwanted idea, affect, or desire by pushing it down, or repressing it, into the unconscious part of the mind. An example may be found in a case of hysterical amnesia, in which the victim has performed or witnessed some disturbing act and then completely forgotten the act itself and the circumstances surrounding it.
Reaction formation- It is the fixation in consciousness of an idea, affect, or desire that is opposite to a feared unconscious impulse. A mother who bears an unwanted child, for example, may react to her feelings of guilt for not wanting the child by becoming extremely solicitous and overprotective to convince both the child and her that she is a good mother.
Projection- It is a form of defense in which unwanted feelings are displaced onto another person, where they then appear as a threat from the external world. An ordinary form of projection occurs when an individual, threatened by his angry feelings, accuses another of harboring hostile thoughts.
Regression-It is a return to earlier stages of development and abandoned forms of gratification belonging to them, prompted by dangers or conflicts arising at one of the later stages. A young wife, for example, might retreat to the security of her parents’ home after her first quarrel with her husband.
Sublimation-It is the diversion or deflection of instinctual drives, usually sexual ones, into noninstinctual channels. Psychoanalytic theory holds that the energy invested in sexual impulses can be shifted to the pursuit of more acceptable and even socially valuable achievements, such as artistic or scientific endeavors.
Denial-It is the conscious refusal to perceive those painful facts that exist. In denying latent feelings of homosexuality or hostility, or mental defects in one’s child, an individual can escape intolerable thoughts, feelings, or events.
Rationalization-It is the substitution of a safe and reasonable explanation for the true (but threatening) cause of behavior.
Psychoanalysts emphasize that the use of a defense mechanism is a normal part of personality function and not in and of itself a sign of psychological disorder. Various psychological disorders, however, can be characterized by an excessive or rigid use of these defenses. The only question that remains to be answered is, “Are you too in denial?”
GAME-TIME
X-Mass Cheer?
I decided to choose the topic of “denial” as the last topic of the year because it fits perfectly with both the combatants today.
The Chiefs have been up until Christmas in denial for the past year and a half. With the loss of the cheetah (T. Hill), the Chiefs were no longer a wide-open and dynamic attacking downfield monster. With the complex scheme and one of the few players in the league that keeps the opposing DC’ up at night, the Chiefs could strike quickly with lethal intensity at any time and from any place on the field.
Once Hill left for Miami in an offseason trade the majority figured that the Chiefs would take a step back and have to make major adjustments in the way they conducted their offense. Strapped with an “average” defense, most pundits figure that the Chiefs although still possessing talent could compete but that they would struggle to defend their title. Well, I think most didn't quite get the memo that a HOF HC, QB, and TE could reinvent themselves and combine with a championship-experienced DC overcome in defying most to win the title again!
So fast forward to this year and you could see why the Chiefs to a man were given a false sense of security believing that they could overcome all obstacles and that they could just “roll the ball out” and everything would mythically just all fall into place.
The Autumn Winds
Well, this year didn't start as planned as the Chiefs struggled mightily and you could get a sense of frustration emerging in the land of BBQ as QB Patrick Mahomes was openly seen yelling at coaches and teammates about the subpar play. When questioned on the struggles Mahomes simply said “We have time, and we will figure it out. Well, it was evident that as time was “slipping through the hourglass” and the “light bulb” wasn't shining bright it all came to a head on that frosty Christmas game against the rival Las Vegas Raiders. Uncharacteristic turnovers, sloppy play, and an odd disinterest from the players led to the Raiders not completing a pass in 3 quarters shocking all by coming out of Arrowhead with a win.
This game was the nadir point for the champs. They could look in the mirror and come to grips that they were not the team of yesteryear and that the title they won hurt them from facing the facts that if they didn’t change and put to rest the belief that they could just snap their fingers and success magically would appear that they were going to have to either accept reality and change or be stuck in denial and go out in flames.
Since the Chiefs are in this game today, I guess we know what direction they went. Gone is their lackadaisical in-game body language as they are in and out of the huddle with military-like precision. Gone is the sloppy play as the turnovers have disappeared and the early execution is done with surgical precision allowing the Chiefs to get a quick lead and then allow the defense to take over to strangle their opposition under the pressure of their inequities. The chiefs accepted they have been in denial, and accepted who they are now instead of trying to be a team they weren't developed on the fly into the team they now are. This is only done through the acceptance of the leadership core and the acceptance to follow the new plan. The Chiefs should be a case study.
Easy Street?
Conversely, the 49ers are going through their denial. Projected to all as this great defensive unit built on the overwhelming of inferior opponents, the 49ers have been so good for so long that they feel if they just show up and play our game, we can overcome all obstacles. Lose the QB, no problem, lose a WR, next man up, lose the top LB we got this, cut a money kicker, (Gold) so what, we just plug and play. Instead of recognizing this in the regular season and making sure they got “buttoned up” by the playoffs the 49ers come into it feeling that by being the No #1 seed and drawing teams like the Packers and then the Lions, if they just showed up and their immense talent would come through in the end. In some respects, they were right as although both Green Bay and Detroit dominated the large favorite 49ers on the stat column the “Gold Diggers” came through in the end.
We then are at the point where SF now with 2 weeks to prepare can come to grips although highly talented their defense is not in the same galaxy of what is needed to win a championship against a well-coached them like KC. It just wasn't one game or a certain team that gives them trouble but going over the tape of numerous games this season I found a defense that didn't play as a unit and was very fortunate that their offense was so good that it made up for their massive weaknesses. Being mostly in the lead they could pin their ears back and attack which led to casing turnovers and capitalizing on the opposition being one dimensional. Under close review when the 49ers got punched back, they looked mortal. I witnessed the Vikings put up nearly 500 yards on this team without all-world WR Justin Jefferson. I saw Cincinnati with Joe Burrow go up and down the field at will almost toying with SF and in the playoffs, we all saw a bunch of kids from Green Bay run through them at will, and a Lions team that if their HC wasn't such an ego-driven head strong neanderthal we would be talking about the Lions facing KC today. Plus, if you just go back 1 year you will see this same KC without the cheetah waltz into Santa Clara and almost put up 50 on this so-called “dominate” 49ers club. SF must know how bad their defense is, but can they overcome their denial this late in the season in the biggest of all games?
Denial, as I wrote about today, is a strong psychological state that if not addressed can make the strongest even appear weak. The Chiefs recognized this within themselves and made the change in the nick of time. Will the 49ers do the same?
MJ
Full disclosure, if this were a typical ho-hum Week 4 game during the regular season, and although I would be mildly intrigued by the matchup, I would not drop one red cent on it. But like all the other know it all “schmucks,” I will have to put at least my very shaky opinion on the outcome. Bottom line I along with everyone else have no idea what will take place in Sin City tonight. So, when you tune into all the self-proclaimed Nostradamus who profess to have the answer, they are simply casting lots like the rest of us. Like these foreseers of the future sat in on both teams’ meetings while having in-depth discussions with the team's coaching staff concerning the complex game plans. Please! That being stated I do know one thing and that this revelation is undeniable. Patrick Mahomes is Michael Jordan!
Flippin Coins
This is a coin-flip game I am going to revert to what I have seen by the 49ers all year and the Chiefs since that “come to Jesus' moment” after the Raiders debacle.
The 49ers are a very slow-starting starting team. They are like the 440-track runner that paces themselves off the block but once they hit the turbo boost button, they fly right by the unsuspecting “rabbit” that sets the early pace leaving all in the dust. Conversely, the “new look” Chiefs are the drag racers who are quick off the blocks as they speed down the drag strip. Yet if asked to go the extra distance they stall and sputter as they limp to the finish line hoping that the early separation they obtained will hold up against the hard-charging opponent. There is evidence of this:
- Purdy has a 91 QBR in the second half of games this postseason, a dramatic increase from a 59 QBR in the first half.
- The Chief's second half Under has gone 18-2, the best mark in the NFL. They've also allowed just 10 combined points in the second half in their three playoff games.
- It's not just the Chiefs' defense stepping it up in the second half that has led to this, but their offense hasn't been as good in the second half either. The Chiefs scored an average of 14.5 points per game in the first half, but just 7.6 points per game in the second half for a difference of 6.9 points. Defensively, the Chiefs allowed 10 points per game in the 1st half but just 6.8 points per game in the second half for a point difference of 3.2 points.
- The 49ers averaged 22.0 points per game in the second half and just 7.0 in the 1st half
- SF has not scored in the 1st quarter in 2 playoff games this year.
My Script
The Chiefs lack game-breakers on the edges, which limits what they can do on offense. With a masterful offensive scheme developer in HC Andy Reid, he can script a plan for the first and second drives but once they used all their bullets after the 1st 2 drives, they are stuck. You can only do matchup-based plays with TE Kelsey, RB screens or WR reverses before the defense gets a keen awareness of what you're doing. Now with the inability to stretch the field, the Chiefs are exposed, and the options become very limited. This is where Mahomes has matured. Before he would force the ball downfield looking to make the big play he was so accustomed to in the past, yet this led to failure. Now he is willing to throw it away and let his defense take over which they have successfully done.
The 49ers-on the other hand are a run-based team that will set up the pass. The highly conservative HC Kyle Shanahan, not wanting to put his young QB in a bad spot will use his stable of running backs to bend and wear down a defense then go for the deadly strikes downfield against a load-the-box but now tired defense. Once SF senses you are conflicted on what to stop the masterful plays being called leaving the perplexed defense in knots. Plus, teams are not accustomed to the physical nature of 49ers. Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Christian McCaffery are just not highly skilled, but they are a load to bring down and by the 4th quarter most teams have had enough. Also, no way Shannahan does what OC Todd Monken and Baltimore did by abandoning the run. The 49ers will find it easier to defend the Chiefs than the last two teams (GB/DET).
A Good Bust?
Well, it's time to exile as the season has ended. So, I won't put you through any more pain as now you have 6 months off of my ridiculous rambling.
As I stated, if this was your average regular season game, I would be “checking out” but since I won't have a coach to bet on NFL football again until August (UGH) I will simply lay it out for you.
In the end, I think this game comes down to the last team with the ball and a chance to win. In this scenario who would you rather be on the side of?
1. Mr. Irrelevant at QB Prudy, a very tight when the lights are the brightest HC Shanahan and a leaky and poor defense that must be in serious doubt now as questions abound with their effort and stuck in denial with an in-over-his-head DC Steve Wilks. Plus, it seems that the 49ers have been complaining a lot (turf, fire alarms, league, etc.). This is a sign that SF is rattled. Not good by any means.
Or
2. The team is relishing the underdog role with HOF Mahomes, Travis Kelsey, Andy Reid, Chris Jones, the best kicker in today's game Harrison Butker, and HOF DC Steve Spagnola who has not only shut down all comers this year but was the DC that shut down the record-setting New England Patriots in the SB when they were undefeated going for perfection only to come up short. Plus, they have the best QB in the game and although he possesses immense talent his mental toughness is his greatest strength and his refusal to lose mentality permeates through the whole organization. He lives for exact games like this!
Barka Heaven
So, just like how I will enjoy the SB in my “comfort zone” (described in the intro) so to at the end of the day with the confetti falling will the team despite all the turmoil surrounding them be able to shut out all the “white noise” and find their “favorite Barka and finger food treats.” Will it be the drag-racing Chiefs that get out to a quick lead so they can put pressure on a team that the longer the game goes on the reality of another monumental falling on the greatest stage becomes too paralyzing to overcome? Or is it the backstreet bully 49ers who from the jump instill their will and with the weight of their tidal wave of talent drown the champ's ability to smoke and mirror their way to back-to-back titles?
I think after reading my last and longest post the answer from my perspective is obvious. In the end, I believe that although the 49ers can win the game there is no way that I want my money on the biggest of stages where the lights are the brightest in the hands of someone who is 1 game away from turning into a pumpkin (Purdy) when I can invest my hard-earned cash on the group of champions (Mahomes, Kelsey, Chris Jones, Reid and Spagnola whose leaders are being fitted for gold jackets and whose busts are being carved out in stone.
Again, why just the 1st quarter? Because in the Chief's last 8 playoff games, they scored the 1st time possessing the ball. Plus, the whole world is with KC. You all know what that means.
Goodbye!
I want to personally thank you all for being part of another highly successful year of psychobabble and for all the positive feedback. This includes the cackling Jackles (you know who you are) hating on me (some deserved/some not) and God willing I will see you all again come September. So, for one last time, I wish GOOD FORTUNE TO ALL! PhD!
