Ok now for a little Super Bowl recap Teddy and RJ are joined for this segment by Steve Fezzik.
Steve starts out by stating he is not happy about the loss on the first half under 24.5 play. That was a rough loss. The Seahawks had 6 seconds left in the half and were inside the 10 yard line and decided to go for a TD rather than kick the FG. Steve hates this when teams don't just tackle the receivers in this spot, cause even though they will give the team another down to work with that team would just go for the FG at that point rather than the TD. A FG would have given 1st half under bettors a push or a win had Belichick done that. Steve still hasn't seen it executed in a game and is really confused as to why teams just don't use that strategy.
Now we go to the end of the game in which Seattle threw the ball, had it intercepted and that call cost them the game. Was it the right call by Pete Carroll?
Teddy feels that in that situation it was absolutely the right call. The key here was that the play was on 2nd down and the Seahawks had just 1 timeout left. Teddy states that 2nd down is the time to throw the football, especially with your opponent stacking the line and looking for the run. Football is about deception.
RJ fully agrees with Teddy. He states that if you run the ball on second down and don't get it then you have to throw the ball after that when there is no deception. He also states that Lynch was under 50% in goal line situation on the year.
Teddy states that the decision to throw was very much the right call, but the play call itself may have not been the right call. It should have been something other than a quick slant.
Steve Fezzik strongly disagrees on making the decision to throw the ball. He feels hat if they run it on 2nd down and then call their time out that even with 19 second left and no timeouts they would still be able to run the ball.
RJ says he's crazy and just doesn't see how they would have enough time to get another play off in that situation. RJ feels there is at least a 3rd of a chance of getting that play off.
Teddy agrees with RJ and Steve states that Teddy hasn't watched football before. LOL
RJ feels that if you have to throw at some point then why not throw on the down when your opponent is not expecting it.
Some in the media are calling it the worst call in Super Bowl history and Teddy states that that is just the classic Monday morning QB talking.
Steve states that one thing we are missing is hat Belichick really donked the end of the game by not calling a timeout with 45 seconds or so left in the game. RJ agrees and also states that the media has had time to dissect all this, but in the heat of the battle when all hell is breaking loose that they had to make a split decision at that moment.
RJ feels hat maybe Belichich not calling the Timeout in the end of the game could have ultimately led to them winning the game. It gave Seattle less time to make a quick decision, and a hurried decision and not always the best decision.
What do you think? Did Seattle make the right call in that situation? join in the conversation.
