What is an 'Anchor'?
An 'Anchor' is a teased SIDE from which all other teased Sides and/or Totals on your play card(s) stem from (note that I said "Side", not Total to define the Anchor - anchoring a Total is not recommended). It is the singular 'lightning rod' Side that is present in ALL of your relevant teaser tickets, and it provides a special and rare opportunity to leverage & effectively get 'FREE' points on ANY Side/Total of your choice as we do not consider an Anchor to be an 'official selection' - rather, it is treated as a 'pre-defined winner'. To qualify as an Anchor, the Side & line must be DROP-DEAD ROCK SOLID in EVERY respect otherwise you are gambling, not intelligently investing. Remember, if you lose your Anchor(s), you lose your ship.
Advanced Anchor Teasing - 'Triple Method'
There are 3 different techniques you can employ when triple Anchor Teasing:
1) FULL Triple-Anchor 'Stacking': The most EXTREME, but with the greatest potential reward. NOT RECOMMENDED without a minimum of a 13pt cushion. This method effectively gives you a 'FREE' 13pts on every other line on the card. With this approach, you have 3 Anchors in a 4-Team 13pt teaser. If your 4th (non-anchored) selection with the 'FREE' 13pt cushion wins, the entire ticket wins (as long as all 3 of the Anchors hold of course). Remember, for a play to qualify as an Anchor, it has to be EXTREMELY SECURE & ROCK-SOLID in EVERY respect. If one of these Anchors fails, your maximum recoverable dollars is $0. If you are not comfortable with this approach, then move onto the next.
2) Anchor 'Rotation': Evenly select and distribute 2 of 3 Anchors to each of your 4-Team 13pt teaser tickets. With this approach, you are playing on 2 other (non-anchored) Sides or Totals (or a combination of Sides/Totals) and getting an extra 'FREE' 13pt cushion with each of them - if they both win, the entire ticket wins (as long as the Anchors hold of course). There are three possible combinations for your Anchors for each ticket -- 1 & 2, 1 & 3, 2 & 3. To keep things simple, let's imagine we have only 3 tickets in total and laid $100 on each and followed the rotation schedule as mentioned, and assumed a 4-Team 13pt teaser paid out at a nominal -130. If one of the anchors fails, your maximum recoverable dollars would be: original stake on ticket without failed Anchor $100 + payout ($100 x 77%) = $177. (You laid $300 in total at the outset, and lost $123 net.)
3) 3-Way Anchor 'Mirroring': 33.33% of the laid money is evenly distributed to each Anchor. There is only 1 of 3 Anchors present on each ticket with this approach. To keep it simple, let's assume that there are only 3 plays (outside of Anchor selections) that you like on the board this week. Let's also assume a 4-Team 13pt teaser paid out at a nominal -130. In this scenario you have a total of 3 teaser tickets. If one of the anchors fails, your maximum recoverable dollars would be: original stakes recovered ($100 x 2) + payouts ($100 x 77%) x 2 = $354. (You laid $300 in total at the outset, and won $54 net.) This is the most secure method for those new to triple Anchor teasing.
