In today's Big Conversation, Dave Malinsky and Steve Fezzik will square off about the betting market value that Sam Bradford has. We get added insight from RJ Bell and Teddy covers as well.
on Saturday Sam Bradford was injured and has been lost for the season. What does it mean in betting terms? Dave Malinsky doesn't feel that is is worth much more than a point.
Teddy Turns back the clock for a moment and discuses the line adjustments of the Braxton Miller injury at Ohio State.
Sam Bradford came into the league in 2010 and he has be rated as a 29 QB according to the QBR. Last year when Bradford went out and Kellen Clemens came in the Rams didn't lose a whole lot with that transition, according to what the stats say. Shaun Hill is a journeyman, but a competent journeyman and that means that the Rams may not miss Bradford all that much.
If their is an overreaction like the media and public tends to do, then the value comes later. Dave looks at the weekend game of St Louis vs the Brown. The Rams outplayed them in every facet of the game, even after Bradford went down. The Rams are still a good team according to Dave.
RJ States that QB's may be more important this year with the new rules. Sam Bradford and Shaun Hill are really fairly even when it comes to talent.
Teddy Covers loves to disagree with Dave, but in this instance he cant really disagree. The adjustments for a team when they lose a QB should not be so much the worth of the QB, but the value of their QB. Bradford wasn't having a great preseason anyway and the Rams are healthy which means they really shouldn't miss him.
Next in the ring is Steve Fezzik. The key point with the 7.5 wins here is more about the 3rd string QB right now. If Hill goes down then Steve feels the Rams can win 2 games at best. Steve doesn't feel how Hill is being compared to Bradford as being even, because he threw about 22 passes the past 3 years in the NFL, so how good is he? We don't know because he never plays.
Steve states that reacting before the market adjusts is key.
Austin Davis and Garrett Gilbert are now the backup QBs for the Rams and they will also be looking at the waiver wire for a backup QB, but Steve still feels that it will not matter to the rams should they get one. Steve states that he would make the Rams OU line at 6.5. If Hill stays healthy they may win 7, but if he doesn't then they could be worst team in the NFC.
