In my travels across town I often run into other sports bettors with similar interests as me. Making money. And at this time of year the question always comes up about weather or not the NFL Preseason is beatable. For every person that tells me they make a fortune this time of year, there is another who says it's unplayable.
In the past it was easy to make money in the preseason just by paying close attention to quotes coming from the coaches. Many times playing time comments point you towards the right side, other times injury information is the key. But one area that never seems to get the attention it deserves is camp depth. By that I mean looking past the first or second strings and finding edges. For years it seems that the Pittsburgh Steelers have an edge when it comes to the back of the rotation guys. Is it coaching or are the Steelers just better at finding players who fit their system? By watching the first two preseason weeks closely you are able to recognize certain tendencies from the clubs. That really comes into play dress rehearsal week when those fringe players are either off the team or sitting on the bench. Make sure to chart how each team does when using its first, second or later units. That gives you big edges either for or against in preseason action.
