Orlando “desperately needs some shooting” Magic
Magic 82 Pistons 108
Even though we’re only a couple games into the season, one thing is for certain; the Orlando Magic can’t shoot the basketball. Majority of their points come from inside and outside of G Evan Fournier, there’s nobody on the floor you feel that confident in that can hit an outside shot. Orlando shot 27% (13-48) from the field in the 1st half while shooting 34% (33-95) for the game. A 9 point 2nd quarter is always remarkable if you ask me. B.Biyombo’s first taste of action for Orlando this season turned out to be a dud and he has a lot of work to do if he wants to live up to that 4 year 72 million dollar contract he signed in the summer. Ibaka already looks like somebody who wants to throw in the towel which is unfortunate because the guy can ball. For Detroit, it was like night and day from their opening night beat down they received at the hands of Toronto. Every one of their starters stepped up against Orlando even their PG Ish Smith (16 pts 8 ast, 8-13). I said it, ISH SMITH, a guy playing in his 7th NBA season who’s played on a total of 10 teams in the league to date.
Houston “we might not have a problem?” Rockets
Rockets 106 Mavs 98
From the jump, you got the sense you were witnessing a different Houston team from the one who gave up 120 on opening night in LA. We know Dirk was out for Dallas but that doesn’t diminish the fact the entire team was actually getting after it on the defensive end. The game was called tight by the refs and Houston still got after it so it’s quite apparent head coach Mike D’Antoni tore into his team and they responded quite well. Trevor Ariza was balling as well (27 pts, 8-12, 5-7 from 3). i won’t completely rush to judgment and bet unders in Houston games but they get an A for defensive effort on this night.
#Nervous times
Navy 45 South Florida 52
In case you weren’t watching, South Florida squandered a 52-27 lead with 9 minutes and change left only to see Navy drive the length of the field for a TD in 51 seconds to cut it to 52-45 but since there was no time remaining on the clock, they didn’t need to kick the XP. A lot of people came out winners in this game (many had +7 or more on Navy and -6/-6.5 for S.Florida) which gave the books something to ponder, at least for one night. I did have action on South Florida -6 but it goes to show how crazy things can get even when they seem out of reach. Never over until the final whistle.
