An important lesson can be learned from this post.
Certain types of moderation being too aggressive can be a real problem for a community. Specifically, if important IDEAS & CONCEPTS are being withheld, preventing discussion about their merits. Lesh’s post hints at such moderation . . . except, a moment’s thought allows you to conclude if such censoring were taking place, why would the mods allow him to attempt to draw attention to that accusation? It doesn’t stand up to reason. By simply reading the forum it’s obvious disagreement with Pregame decision-makers is welcome.
What a small handful seem to object to is that we demand civility . . . that personal attacks, rudeness, and disrespect is not OK.
I must personally admit that it befuddles me why anyone would feel so strongly about the right to be an asshole.
Whatever the reason . . . That mindset will never be accepted at Pregame.com. I am certain that the kind of people we want to attract to contribute will appreciate being able to contribute without being mistreated.
Do not mistake this with discouraging disagreement . . . in fact, it’s the opposite: we encourage and will protect the right disagree, while at the same time requiring respect.
If you are not OK with ideas you disagree with, Pregame.com is not the place for you.
If you do not believe that others deserve respect (even if you disagree with them), Pregame.com is not the place for you.
That’s the thing about freedom – it cuts both ways . . . only a tyrant complains about being hindered from taking away someone else’s rights.
Other forums are ok with the bullying of minority opinions, and other forums are ok with disrespectful personal attacks . . . it would make me extremely happy if Pregame.com differentiates itself because we protect minority opinions and demand that respect is shown to all.
Personally, I believe Lesh has value to contribute to this community. I hope he decides to focus on that.
