Nothing hard core. But I loathe hypocrisy. Obviously sports wagering was taboo on broadcasts for years. It was what it was. We all got it. And now, with a totally different landscape and now with major sports embracing legalized wagering one would think announcers would not be muzzled when it comes to referencing the lines in games. Some slightly refer to it but still basically tap dance around it. And let’s be real here. Sports betting creates likely most the audiences. And it bugs me when a game that is decided as far as a outright winner is decided but in the closing moments in a game regarding the number they rarely and reluctantly address it. That’s WHY you still have a listening audience! Other than alumni or family of the players most of the audience would have flown the coop. It is what it is, it’s OKAY to mention the spread. You can’t be half pregnant. Either acknowledge it or not. At this stage don’t ignore it. Maybe this doesn’t bother anyone else. I just find it strangely naive and hypocrisy at its biggest level. Just accept it and go with it. Without it the tournament would not be remotely close to drawing the ratings if does. It’s 2024. Not ten years ago. Just wondering if the broadcasters are muzzled or stubbornly clinging to old broadcast habits. Anyway, personally I grates on my nerves. In a close finish dancing on the number just acknowledge it.
