Been too busy to get on here now so we go from morning coffee to afternoon beers. I guess it's happy hour somewhere. Not a happy day around Columbia today as word as trickled out that Carl Edwards is retiring. We all want what is best for Carl and and hoping all is okay health wise. As I have stated many times before, Carl is the real deal. Not just as a race car driver but as a man. My kids grew up knowing him from school and he was always just a good kid. All that boy ever wanted to do was race something. He was born to it. If ever there was a self made man it is Carl. He scratched around mid missouri on dirt tracks and winning everything in sight but the kid had no dough. He didn't know anyone in nascar. He just felt like there was little hope of ever getting a fair shot. But to his credit he printed up a ton of cards and passed them out anywhere and everywhere he could. Just said, Carl Edwards, race car driver with his number. Finally Jack Roush decided to give the pesky kid a ride in the truck series and the rest is history. All he needed was a foot in the door and he knew he could make it work. Well, he surely did. And was much as a success he has enjoyed he has never changed one bit as a member of the community. Carl today is the same as the Carl growing up. Success never went to his head. I pray all is okay with him. The whole town does. When Carl was racing it is likely 80% of the TV sets in Columbia were tuned in.
What a game last night. Bama got up 14-0 but to the Tigers credit they never kept battling. Not many teams are going to climb back from the two touchdown deficit to the Tide. Those were two great teams battling it out. I am not going to get into the whole SEC myth thing that seems to be a hot topic with some. I don't agree and will leave it at that.
One thing I will add, Alabama has built such a successful program they became the Darth Vader or college football. They were so good everyone wanted to see them knocked down a peg. A lot of people take shots at them but really it's a compliment. I will state it right here and now that they come back and win it next year.
But all in all the general feeling this morning at breakfast was for last night, the better team won. Its not baseball where they can play a best of five. Last night Clemson got it done. Props.
On a personal note I will not be around the forum as much as normal this upcoming weekend. My wife and I are flying out to the LA area to meet our newly born granddaughter. Leaving thursday night. I assure you I will be getting the work in. I actually expect to have a very big NFL release loaded later today. But I have two grandsons and this is my first encounter with this little princess. Yes, I sound like a proud papa. That's because I am. This is the daughter I never thought would even get married. She was all about her career and it was flourishing. But when you meet that right person, well things change. Anyway, I am excited to meet our newest addition. Her name is Bel.
Thats it for now guys. Back to work. Good luck with your action tonight.
