As someone who grew up on the east side of Pittsburgh....
And vacationed near the mountains of Latrobe and Jennerstown off Route #30 in PA......
I can tell you....from meeting him....
There wasn't a kinder.....or more giving soul than "Arnie"......
He truly cared fro the game....and others in general.......
It was before my time.....But many older fans near Pittsburgh......told me how he was so congenial and pleasant to his opponents.......Primarily Jack Nicklaus at his first US Open at Oakmont......
Arnie had the majority of the rough and tumble......Pittsburgh blue collar crowd........
They tended to give Jack a hard time.....
Arnie intervened......and put an end to that.......in a gesture of sportsmanship....rarely seen then.....or now.......
A true gentleman......He will be sorely missed......
