Well here we go guys. Super Bowl week. Every year it seems to get a little more blown up. If you have never had the opportunity to head out to Vegas for a super bowl I highly suggest you do so. Something every football fan should do at least once. I place it second only to march madness out there.
I was visiting with the guys this morning and I brought up a subject that super bowl week brought to my mind. In fact it has been a long, long time since I had even given it a thought. Imagine if the New England Patriots were scheduled to battle the Arizona Cardinals this weekend in a game prior to the Super Bowl. A game called the Playoff Bowl. Well, the fact is the NFL used to have such a thing. And yes, I do remember them. As a life long Packer fan I am proud of the rich heritage and multiple titles. But nobody talks much about the 40-23 Playoff Bowl victory over the Cleveland Browns. Or the fact the mighty Packers were knocked off in the playoff bowl one season by the St Louis Cardinals 24-17. Word is Vince Lombardi absolutely despised the game. Who could get too worked up over playing a game to proclaim, We are THIRD! The last of the Playoff Bowls came in 1969 when QB Roman Gabriel led the Rams over the Cowboys 31-0. Attendance was slightly over 31,000 people. Can you imagine a press conference with Bill Belichick as he prepared for a game like this? Good grief, if you think he mumbles now. Forget about it.
Anyway, thought it was a cool memory and figured many on here did not even know such a game ever existed. Thought this week was the perfect time to bring it up.
Okay, much work to be done as always. Hope everyone has a great week leading up to the big game. Best of luck with all your action.
