3 UNIT PLAYS
Missouri State/ Southern Illinois Under 119: These teams met twice this year with just 98 and 103 points being scored in the two games and with MVC Tournament games usually being lower scoring than the regular season, I will fully expect another very low scoring contest in this one. Both teams play at a very slow pace and both teams have had trouble scoring all year, with SIU averaging just 59.7 ppg overall, including 58.1 away from home, while the Bears have averaged just 59.3 ppg overall and just 56.8 ppg away from home. We also note that SIU has scored just 60.2 ppg in their last 5 games, while Missouri State has put up just 51.7 ppg (Regulation) in their last 7 games. The defenses are not spectacular, but these offenses are very bad and in a very slow paced game that should keep the scoring Under 110 points.
Arkansas/ South Carolina Under 141.5: Earlier in the year the teams met at Arkansas where games are usually much higher scoring and just 130 points were scored with an OU Line of 141.5. Now we have the Same OU line in a place where just 130.3 ppg have been scored this year. Seems odd to me. I know that South Carolina just had a high scoring game vs Mississippi State on this floor and that they scored 83 points in that game, but make no mistake, this is a still a weak offense as they have scored just 58.2 ppg in their last 5 games, despite the fact that they put up 83 points in their last game. Arkansas is a scoring machine at home, but on the road they have been very average, putting up just 71.7 ppg overall and if you take out the 101 they scored at Auburn then they have scored just 66 ppg in their other 7 SEC road games. Getting their offense going in this oe will be tough vs a South Carolina defense that has allowed just 60.7 ppg at home this year, including 61.2 ppg in their last 7 SEC home games. Just one of South Carolina's last 7 SEC home games have put up more than 134 points and I don't see this one topping 135 points, especially since South Carolina's SEC home games have averaged just 126 ppg this year.
BEST OF THE REST
(526) Marshall/ Old Dominion Under 129.5: Another line that I feel is off a few points, especially since ODU has yet to play a conference home game with more than 127 points being scored this year. ODU's conference home games have average just 117.4 ppg on the year and A big part of that is their outstanding defense on this floor, as they have allowed just 52.4 ppg overall at home, including just 52.0 ppg at home in conference play. This is one tough defense to crack and I don't see a Marshall team that averages just 60.0 ppg on the road cracking that defense. Even worse is their 59.1 ppg average (Regulation) on the road in Conference USA. The Defense for Marshall is not great, but ODU does play at a slow pace and have been a below average offensive team of late, scoring just 63.2 ppg in their last 7 games. Very hard to see this one come all that close to 130 points.
Arizona/ California Under 134.5: The Arizona defense has been great all year, but even better down the stretch as they have allowed just 54.8 ppg on 36% shooting in their last 5 games. This team will not give up a whole lot, while California has played decent defense on the road, allowing 69 ppg on just 41.3% away from home this year. 69 ppg allowed isn't great, but if they can hold Arizona to 75 or less then we will be golden here as I just don't see more than 55 points from the Cal Bears here. I will call for a 73-54 final in this one.
