Hey Doc,
I'm having problems reading the less than< and greater than>?
I'am running tomorrow's starters and Im not sure what stat info should I be reading.
Example:
DBacks/Phillies
starter= Josh Collmenter and A and line>=125 and season>=2014
As a dog should I be point it to the right (line>=125) or left (line<=125),
I'm getting 2 different stats.
Could you help me?
Thanks,
Katz,
The confusion is understandable.
I still remember what I learned in 3rd grade -- the alligator's mouth eats the bigger number. When I was a boy, I drew teeth on my greater than and less than signs to help me remember. The confusing part is that when a team is a 130 favorite or MORE, the line is actually minus 130 or LESS because minus 140 is less than minus 130.
Here are a couple of examples:
line >= 125 means that the team's line is at least 125. So, lines of +125, +130, +180 etc all qualify. This translates into English as "a dog of at least 125."
line <= 125 means that the team's line is 125 or less. So, lines of +125, +100, -120 and -180 all qualify. This translates into English as "not a dog of more than 125."
In general, think of the team's line as a number on the number line that goes from, say, -400 to +400. All lines to the right of the team's line are greater than and all lines to the left are less than.
I'm glad you asked this question, as many new users of the SDQL have trouble, understandably, with the line designation.
