902 San Diego at Miami
The Miami Marlins are turning into one of the best stories in baseball behind their very young, very talented pitching staff. Another of those underrated starters takes the ball on Sunday when Nathan Eovaldi takes on Ian Kennedy. It's been a rough start for the Padres offensively with just eight runs on 29 hits in five games. The road doesn't get any easier with Eovaldi, the 24-year-old flamethrower. Eovaldi comfortably sits in the upper 90s with a hard slider that hitters swung and missed at nearly 16 percent of the time last season. Eovaldi is a guy that we've keyed in on as an undervalued pitcher, especially at home.
Ian Kennedy won't have much margin for error on Sunday. The Padres have scored eight runs in five games and are batting just 4-for-37 with runners in scoring position so far. Kennedy didn't have a feel for his breaking stuff in his first start as he threw over 70 percent fastballs. The Marlins lineup is playing with a lot of confidence right now and attacking fastballs has been the reason why. It's a young lineup, but they can definitely hit fastballs. Unless Kennedy is able to find a feel for his breaking pitches, the Marlins should be able to get Eovaldi plenty of support, considering that it may not take a lot of support against the punchless Padres offense.
