Shortly after the Packers blew the NFC Championship game to the Seahawks, I wrote that Green Bay General Manager Ted Thompson should fire Mike McCarthy.
Not surprisingly Thompson did not heed my advice. However, he's done the next best things.
The Packers fired special teams coach Shawn Slocum, who had been in that position since 2009. It was a move that should have been done years ago since the Packers rated last, or near the bottom, annually in the well-respected Dallas Morning News' special teams ratings.
Then Thompson relieved McCarthy of his play-calling duties. McCarthy actually is one of the better play-callers, but his gutless decisions against the Seahawks will never be forgotten.
And, now, today the Packers cut reserve tight end Brandon Bostick, who fumbled the on-side kick near the end of the game. This wasn't just a physical error by Bostick. His assignment was to block and let sure-handed Jorday Nelson, who was right in back of him, field the kick.
These moves should improve the Packers. Being a life-long Packers fan, though, I just wish they would have occurred before that championship game.
On the handicapping front, I have my first Triple Star play going today in nearly a week. I am 15-4 on my last 19 premium plays and 5-1 on my last six college basketball plays. The play, along with my packages, can be found here: /pregamepros/pro-bettor/bettor.aspx?id=7746#capper.
As always, no bad luck!
