We began our 2014 golf campaign last week with a Free Pick Video and thankfully gave out a nice winner with Ryan Palmer getting the best of Defending Champion, Brian Gay at The Humana Challenge in a head to head match up. Palmer ended up finishing the tournament alone in 2nd place and Gay did not even make it to the weekend, missing the cut.
With Football now taking a week off before The SuperBowl and with Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson returning to action at one of their all time favorite stages for victories - we figured that getting our golf on this week would be a perfect opportunity.
Last golf season, I posted a great deal of picks up here in the forum and this year will be very similar. I will plan on having a Premium Play or two up on my capper page and also some Free Pick write ups here in the forum along with some Free Pick Videos up for viewing as well. It ought to be a great time with lots of golf information out there for everyone to soak up and enjoy.
So let's get to this week and one of my favorites - Torrey Pines..
Head to Head Match Ups:
Bill Haas (-126) over Jordan Spieth at Bookmaker.eu
Charles Howell III (-120) over Marc Leishman at The LVH
Haas has been tremendous at Torrey over the years and I would not be surprised if he won it all this week. Since 2009, he has had a T9, T4, T9, and T11. Now, we all know Spieth is a fantastic player and one of the new heroes on Tour but after finishing 2nd at Kapalua, he missed the cut the following week at The Sony.. and last year here at The Farmers, Spieth missed the cut as well. I'll take experience over youth here in this one.
Charles Howell has been playing a lot of golf in the "off" season that is now the "wrap around" season and he's been playing quite well. In the last 4-months, Chucky Three Sticks has played in 8-events and has 5-Top 10's. He may have run out of gas last week in Palm Desert as he tied for 58th but I like him to rebound here this week - a track at which he has finished in the top 10 twice and top 20 twice in the last six years - and finished 2nd in 2007. Leishman has played in just 3-events so far in the new season.. nothing to write home about except for a 5th place finish in Honolulu at The Sony.. but last year, Leishman, like Spieth, also missed the cut at Torrey Pines.
As I watch the paragliders float over La Jolla this weekend, I will remember that I used to play Torrey Pines in my college days in San Diego. As a resident and a student, after 2:30pm on weekdays, my buddies and I used to walk 18-holes for just $7. That was awesome.
Enjoy the golf. We'll be back with more next week. Premium Plays are up here..
