The Georgia Bulldogs - sticking in the early part of the season with teams we know best, and that's the SEC/ACC and smaller conferences in our area. As usual the Bulldogs have high expectations and most preseason polls have them ranked in the Top 10. Maybe so - but I wouldn't bet on it. They lose Gurley of course, and have Nick Chubb and Marshall. They lose Chris Conley (WR) and still have Malcom Mitchell. They bring back most of their offensive line - so far, so good. But, in a sense they've got a question mark at QB. It was Brice Ramsey who was the heir apparent to Mason - right up until a couple of days ago. Richt named Greyson Lambert the starter. Lambert transferred from UVA because he WASN'T going to be the starter - how good was UVA's offense and what does that say about Lambert? A big question mark, IMO. So I suppose if they end up with a servicable QB they'll score.
It's on defense I get concerned. They're young in the middle, losing two linebackers to the NFL, as well as a cornerback. Their D-Line is fine - only one youngster out of high school, but int he defensive backfield it looks like they'll start Malcom Parrish, a sophomore with basically no experience. Sophomore Dominick Sanders played a fair bit last season, but was nothing special (until a two interception game in the Belk Bowl against L'ville) but IMO he was helped out by the fact that Damian Swann WAS there (drafted by KC) and teams didn't throw his direction. Behind them, they have ZERO experience. Teams that can pass and get the ball out quick may well be able to simply outscore UGA.
They'll be helped by their schedule, which only has three SEC road games. At Vanderbilt, and that shouldn't matter if they played on Mars. At Tennessee which is a possible loss, and at Auburn which as also a possible loss. They get Alabama in the regular season, a rarity, but at home - the week before Tennessee. GOY on the Vols, probably. Then they end the season with the always dangerous G-Tech team - at Tech. They SHOULD have at least two losses before the potential SEC Championship game (Right just doesn't win those big games, rematch with Alabama perhaps) and they COULD have three losses - play in a Bowl Game they don't really want to, lose to someone who DOES want to play an SEC team - and hence, no Top Ten.
And that's ASSUMING they stay healthy - they're very thin with experience - and of course no suspensions, which would also be a first for UGA in several years. So, a very good team indeed that will win some games in blowout fashion - but come the playoffs/January - they should be on the outside looking in and once again Right's name will come up as "maybe it's time" - he's had more talented teams and done less than most for year. I'm sure FSU will take him back.
