Uncle Mo Scratched: Will Miss 2011 Kentucky Derby

Uncle Mo scratched from the 2011 Kentucky Derby

2011 Kentucky Derby contender Uncle Mo has been scratched from the race due to struggling from gastrointestinal illness that was diagnosed after his upset loss in the Wood Memorial as 1-10 favorite. No official reason was given when the scratch card was submitted by John Vietch, but Uncle Mo has yet to fully recover from his stomach ailment as shown after work out routines leading up to Saturday's Derby.

Uncle Mo was an early favorite along with Dialed In and Nehro at 9-2.  Word out of Churchill Downs is three veterinarians were working on Uncle Mo and the consensus was he could not run in the Derby. This would mark the third time in the past three years one of the top contenders was pulled from the Kentucky Derby prior to the "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports". Owner Mike Repole has already stated that he not sure whether his horse would race in the Preakness Stakes and if that was the decision, Uncle Mo would also miss the Belmont Stakes.
