These two have met in several finals throughout the years and later on today they will add another chapter to their fascinating story. Reports surfaced that neither player was happy that this final was pushed to Monday afternoon, but that's when it's going to be played. Novak will almost certainly leave Flushing as the No. 1 player in the world, even if he doesn't win his second U.S. Open title in the last three years.
The duo has combined to win 11 of the last 14 majors overall, dating back to the 2011 French Open at Roland Garros. And if you look a bit deeper, they've played each other in six finals during those times with each player winning three times. Even better, these two will battle for the U.S. Open final for the third time in four years. In other words, this is going to be a very fun final to watch.
Last year Nadal battled injuries for most of the season and wasn't able to play at the U.S. Open. He's stated that has motivated him to play his best tennis the past few weeks and he believes he can beat Djokovic later today. He should feel like he can beat Novak — he owns a record of 21-15 against him and has beaten him seven times in a Grand Slam finals.
Both guys are looking for their second Grand Slam title of 2013. Djokovic won the Aussie Open to begin the year and Nadal, of course, won at Roland Garros for the eighth time, a record for men's tennis.
They're both in great shape physically and neither is battling a nagging injury. This is going to be an epic final between two of the greatest players ever. Look for a five-set battle between these two guys. We like Nadal to get it done, but it won't be easy.
