The Vegas Report: Ohio State and St. Louis Rams Cash for Sportsbooks

Saturday and Sunday were both pretty good days for the books as for once the key games during the day and in prime-time fell their way.  A nice mix of favorites and dogs, overs and unders had many sportsbooks calling it the best weekend so far this season. The shops in Las Vegas essentially are in sync with the reports we shared from The Offshore Report (The Offshore Report: Stanford on a $447,351 Run!).

The best college game of the week?
*Wisconsin-Ohio State was a monster game for the books as the Badgers were tied to tons of teasers and decent action on the money line.
*Georgia Tech beating Clemson was a silent assassin. Very big game for the books.

What games hurt the book in college on Saturday?
*Stanford 8-point overtime win over USC.

NFL game that made the house money?
*The Rams beating the Saints was the biggest game of the day.
*The Dolphins keeping it close against the Giants and Cardinals covering versus the Ravens made it a very good morning.
*Steelers over the Pats.  Some books used 2.5 on the parlay cards, which invited a ton of Patriot action.  Most heavily bet game of the day at some shops even topping the Rams/Saints with most betting on the favorite.

Who cost you money in the NFL?
*Worst NFL game was the Lions blowing out the Broncos.
*The 49ers covering versus the Browns. It was all 49ers until the line went to 10.0, which was just a push for any of the money they took back on Cleveland. Sportsbooks were hoping for a late field goal that never came from the Browns at the end since they needed two scores regardless.

“We have a $5 progressive parlay card where there are no spreads; you just pick winners. The jackpot was $34,000 last week for a perfect card. More than 98% of cards had the Saints beating the Rams and that pretty much guaranteed a carryover into this week which will be $40,000.”

"Today we hung Oklahoma St -3.0 over Oklahoma on December 3rd."

With the Stanford line crossing both sides of the final result (eight point win), what % of the action on this game did you win, lose or push?

"40% Win - 40% Lose - 20% Push. Stanford-USC was a “rail splitter.” Most of the week we were at -8 or -8.5 and we closed at -9.Most of late parlay money was on Stanford at 8 or 8.5 so we lost on game but it wasn't a total disaster."
-Jimmy Vaccaro

"By far the worst game of Saturday and the whole weekend was Stanford-USC.  We opened Stanford -7, went up to 9.  It seemed like we paid everyone who bet the game with us.  Tons of money on that game, and it sure seems like everyone either won or tied."
-Chris Andrews

Are you getting action on LSU-Alabama, if so how does it rate and who are they betting?

"We’ve been getting good two-way action. We opened it Alabama -6 on October 13 and it was bet to -4.5 and now -4 as we’re getting money on the dog but I expect it to close -5.0 or -5.5."
-Jimmy Vaccaro

"We opened Alabama -6 last week.  We're now down to 4.5.  So far all the action is on LSU.  I think some Bama money will start coming in now."
-Chris Andrews

Early action:
Oklahoma opened -14 over Texas A&M, down to -13.
Arkansas opened 4.5 over So Carolina, up to 5.5
North Carolina opened -5 over NC State, down to 3.5
Falcons opened -8.5 over Colts, down to -7
Cowboys opened -13 over Seahawks, down to 11.5
Eagles opened -6 over Bears, up to -7
