The Offshore Report: AP Top 10 Goes 9-0 Against the Spread!

From the offshores I spoke with, Saturday was a disaster for the sportsbooks (All 9 active teams in the AP Top 10 covered the Vegas line this week by a total of 120 points (over 13 points per game)
and Sunday ended up being an average day in favor of the sportsbooks.  Dave Mason at BetOnline at least was able to make a joke about Saturday despite the huge losses, "I think we won like $20 on a 1-AA game. Kidding of course but we got slaughtered Saturday. Nothing you can do when all top 10 teams blow out their opponents and cover. But to answer your question, BYU was a decent win."

So here is the rundown of last week and a look ahead to what we know so far about the upcoming football action:

NFL results that made the books the most money Sunday:
*Buffalo Bills was huge. Public was loving the Philadelphia Eagles.

College Football teams that cashed for the sportsbooks on Saturday:
*BYU.

What NFL teams cost them money Sunday:
*San Diego Chargers and Green Bay Packers. Another prime-time football game with the favorite covering. The over not coming in helped in a big way. The books also needed the New York Jets, but a late New England field goal dashed those hopes and one bookmaker pointed out the "useless points" that swing it one way or another:

"It’s funny how a seemingly ‘meaningless’ play has such a huge impact on whether the players win or lose a ton on a game. The Pats are leading 27-21 late in the 4th. They are chewing up the clock. It’s 3rd and 1 inside the Jets 10. If they get the first down, they can take a knee and end the game (then again you never know with Bilichick) – huge winner for us. Instead they lose a yard, forcing 4th and 2, kick a FG – huge winner for the players."

Worst CFB result:
*‘All of the Above’. Oklahoma and LSU were both real bad losses for the offshores.

Early action for this week:
*College:  LSU (-14.5 vs Tennessee) and Oklahoma State  (-7.5 vs Texas) are the most popular bets for the public so far.
*NFL: Saints (-4.5 vs Bucs) is the publics biggest play for next week so far

Early movement:
*Eagles opened up -1.5 over the Redskins and now has Washington favored. I personally have this line at Washington -3.0 and think we can ride the value betting AGAINST the Eagles until the public realizes the "dream team" is not "so dreamy".
*Ravens opened up -5.5 over the Texans, but with Andre Johnson out and now Mario Williams out for the season, the action is all over Baltimore and moved it up -7.0.
*Raiders opened at -7.0 and has been bet down to -5.5 over the Browns. Initial reaction is the Texans played bad versus the Raiders being that good.

Interesting notes:
*Home teams on Monday Night Football going into tonight's game  are 1-4 ATS and 77-94 -26.4 units going back to 2001
*Michigan +3.0 vs. Michigan State: only 3 other times since 1980 has Michigan been an underdog vs. Michigan State (2009, 2008 & 2005)
*Ohio State has been a "dog" at Illinois only 3x. +3.5 in 91 (lost 10-7), +5 in 89 (lost 34-14) & 1982 +5.5 (won 26-21).
*Buffalo Bills are now 4-1. Season win projections in Las Vegas opened up 5 (over -130). Philadelphia Eagles 1-4 and opened 10 (over -120).
*$100 on the 9 active teams in the AP Top 10 this past Saturday in a 9-team parlay would have paid $33,600.
