Kevin Sumlin’s Texas A&M Aggies may still be licking the wound of last weekend’s loss to Florida, but there is no time for them to dwell on the past, however recent. A&M will meet in-state rival SMU this afternoon (start time set for 3:30pm ET) at Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Texas A&M vs SMU Odds suggest the Aggies will overcome their grief and get the job done against the Mustangs. Sumlin’s crew is listed as a -13.5 against the spread road favorite while today’s game total is set at 57 points.
Texas A&M’s SEC debut did not go according to plan as it fell 20-17 at home to Florida last Saturday. The Aggies were a two point favorite in the contest, which served as their season opener after Hurricane Isaac led to the postponement of a neutral site meeting with Louisiana Tech.
Whether this is a good spot for A&M is debatable, but with South Carolina State on the docket next weekend, the Mustangs should have the Aggies full attention. That does not bode well for SMU considering the results of last year’s meeting with Texas A&M.
These two schools opened the season against each other in 2011 and the Aggies blasted June Jones’ crew by 31 points at Kyle Field. A&M held a far more experienced Mustang offense (returned 10 starters from the previous season) to 14 points and 347 total yards, making the possibility of a 20 or more point blowout in today’s battle seem plausible.
SMU got drilled 59-24 in its opener at Baylor playing as a 10 point road dog before rebounding last week with a 52-0 home win over FCS school Stephen F. Austin. Saturday’s whipping of the Lumberjacks may have improved the Mustangs psyche, but it is doubtful it improved their game enough for them to pull off the upset today.
