Roger Federer will look to add to his already record setting Grand Slam trophy case when he takes the courts at Melbourne this week. The latest 2013 Australian Open Odds expect the Basel, Switzerland native to be in the championship mix as he is presently a third pick to win it at +400 odds ($100 wins $400). The only two players favored over Federer are top ranked Novak Djokovic (-110) and third seed Andy Murray (+225).

Once upon a time Roger Federer owned the men’s singles circuit, winning 14 of 24 majors between 2004 and 2009. The last three years have been successful for the Swiss great, but he is no longer the top dog. Federer has won just two of the last 12 Grand Slams, despite reaching the quarterfinals or better in each of those tournaments.

Federer, the two seed, does own four Australian Open titles, though, with his most recent coming in 2010 when he defeated Andy Murray 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 in the final. Federer reached the semifinals at Melbourne in 2011 and 2012, where he fell to Djokovic and Rafael Nadal respectively.

At +400 odds Federer is, without question, a strong play. Since 2004 he has reached the finals at the Australian Open five times and he has not been ousted before the semis since 2003.
