The Pittsburgh Steelers are synonymous with success and last season provided yet another example of how the franchise came to be a symbol of greatness as it posted 12 wins for the third time in three years. However, some are expecting a step back from the team this season. While Pittsburgh closed out the 2011 season with a 12-4 record, not everything was roses for the club last year. The Steelers, who were unexpectedly dumped by the Broncos in a Wild Card playoff game at Mile High, averaging just 20.3 points per game despite fielding the 11th best offense in terms of yards produced (372.3 yards per game).
Pittsburgh’s inefficiency led to the dismissal of offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and the subsequent hiring of former Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley to serve as his replacement. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the current face of the franchise, expressed his displeasure with the move, leading some to speculate that he and the volatile Haley would clash and clash often.
Regardless of how well Roethlisberger and Haley co-exist, Cantor Gaming envisions the Steelers being a major force this season. The Las Vegas based odds maker, which released points spreads for weeks one through 16 of the 2012 NFL regular season schedule, has the Steelers favored in 11 of 15 games.
