Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals takes place tonight as the Chicago Blackhawks travel to the West Coast to take on the Los Angeles Kings. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the NBC Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Kings favored to win.
Chicago battled back from their 7-game series with the rival Detroit Red Wings to smack around the Kings. They won both games in Chicago by pretty convincing fashion and punched the Kings right in the mouth. But remember, Los Angeles just got past the San Jose Sharks after falling in an 0-2 hole during the previous playoff series.
LA, the defending Stanley Cup Champions, now face a pair of games at home where they should be able to come through in the clutch and pick up some wins. If they are able to even the series at 2-2 the potential final three games could be a very good atmosphere. Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was pulled from Game 2 when the Blackhawks just abused him in the opening portion of the game. Jonathan Bernier came in and didn't allow another goal for the Blackhawks in the remaining game.
Los Angeles' scoring struggles are getting ugly, with just 29 goals in 15 playoff games — easily the lowest scoring average for any team that won a playoff round. Mike Richards leads with 10 points this post season while Jeff Carter leads the way with six goals scored in the playoffs. Richards got banged up pretty good with an apparent head injury and didn't play in the second game. LA still isn't saying whether or not he's going to play tonight.
Chicago goalie Corey Crawford has played very solid in net for the Hawks but he's certainly going to get a lot of shots sent his way tonight. The only way the Kings will be able to pick up a win and get back in this series is to score more goals. Anze Kopitar has just two goals in 15 games while captain Dustin Brown has a mere four points in the playoffs.
We like the Kings to get it done tonight. Look for Quick to play a lot better in tonight's game and expect the LA offense to get it going early. They're in a major hole but still have a very good chance to get back into the series with a victory tonight.
